Comment: Even after a night of decent rainfall this creek was low flow. This is a great spot to teach new canyoneers basic skills, but nothing too grand for features or views. There is a crazy amount of tat and other bolts that are not listed in beta. Slippery canyon, easy route finding. I’ll probably only return back to teach people.

Comment: While the canyon itself is great for beginners, the remoteness of this canyon should not be taken lightly. It would be an especially bad day if you broke down or someone in your party was injured (due to lack of cell reception and skinny, single-lane dirt road). The road is in fair condition with several potholes that can mostly be avoided but could be sketchy in sedans. We found that there was a small blip of cell reception for T-Mobile at the top parking area, enough to call or text. Make sure that you tell someone where you’re going and when you plan to return.

Orange flags may need a re-mark soon. There are some green flags too and I’m not sure where those go- either further up-canyon to a different drop-in or an unrelated hike.

All anchors in decent condition, flow was at a trickle, rock was slick. Beautiful mossy canyon and a good day out. Note that the tree on R7 is marginal, it was flexing a lot under load. The number of rappels in this canyon could range from 5 (combining R1,2,3 and R7,8) to 8 (using all stations). Maybe there is a way to combine another, so I didn’t change the number of raps to 4. Changed rope length on R6 to 30’.

On a hot day and class B conditions, I felt that a wetsuit was unnecessary but we wore them due to canyoning into the evening.

Comment: Flow was perfect to make this a fun and sporty day out. Pilot isn’t normally regarded as a great canyon, but with the right flow it was a lot of fun. Water was very cold though. Anchors were all in good condition.

Comment: Fun, easy, pretty canyon. Low water flow at time of decent. Deepest pools are maybe waist deep. Biggest hazard are some slippery spots. Bolted anchors had no webbing. Can bypass many anchors with 100ft rope.

Comment: This is the best beginner canyon for NEWBIEs. starts with 4 easy dry rappels, a rain room, and 3 more rappels with easy starts and 45 degree slope. Shuttle parking makes minimal hiking, trail in is flagged. All starts are easy walk ups, R2 is the only short overhang, but dry. Go here over Change creeks
