Comments: 1) My gps logged only 0.9 miles to the base of the upper falls if you stay on the main trail, though according to signs it should be 1.3. 2) Well worth it to keep going to the top of the falls on the trail (another 1/3 of a mile). You get a great view and it feels more like you're dropping into something. You get more canyon scrambling in if you do this and you don't have to do the 20 ft rappel if you don't want(as of July 2024 the rap was blocked by brush anyway). A little more bang for your buck IMO since it lengthens the in-canyon route a fair bit proportionally to the rest of the route. 3) Sure you can scramble around R2&3 (assuming upper falls was #1) to avoid the headache of rope work on short raps, but it's more interesting IMO to be going doing through the mossy, wet steep sections than tramping through the leaves and sticks on the sides and just looking at the falls ("woohoo!" as opposed to "how nice") 4) You can easily and safely make R4 a 90 foot rap on trees DCR. Looking at the terrain, this makes more sense to me too. 5) Top of R5 (lower falls) as of July 2024 was clogged up with big downed trees, probably from all the flooding of the last year and a half in the northeast. It is impassible down through the main watercourse; however, DCR you can easily and safely access good trees that takes you through a nice mossy, rocky section parallel to the watercourse. Still awesome with great photo ops. This makes the rap about 80-90 feet depending on your preferred tree anchor. 6) 2.5 hours involved some exploration up top and dealing with 2 ropes lazily by myself.

Comment: Lovely day, with a number of hikers on the trail. Ghosted all rappels. Took the time to explore the area above the first rappel. First recorded decent on ropewiki, but we found evidence that the area has been used by a number of canyoneering groups before.
