Comments: We climbed up the Gooseberry connector to the Gooseberry motorway, and then the Lone Tree trail to the ridge and up to the water tank (normal drop-in point). We continued to the summit of Mt Muir, then down to the saddle on the trail, then spent 2 hours cutting our way through 250 feet of briars over to the top of the landslide (special challenges). In hindsight looking at the satellite view, we should have taken a line from the south which appears to mostly go through trees, instead of briar bushes. Anyway, we started the low angle rappels down the landslide chute off a questionable rooted tree, which made a nice platform to get into the chute. The 1st 3 rappels in the chute were over 220 feet, but easy enough to downclimb almost any of it. Rappelling just made the descent controlled instead of sliding with scree, rocks and small boulders. The 4th landslide chute rappel (200ft) went through some crumbly chutes which really did need a rope for descent (see pic). Below it was blocky enough to downclimb around around 200 feet joining the normal descent just a bit below its R1.

The rest of the descent was normal, although we did ghost the big boulder downclimb and built a rock cairn for another downclimb before the wet and shady section. In the wet and shady section, the dead tree anchor at the down-climbable dry chimney is gone, but we downclimbed the rock face DCR which was easier than the chimney. The water flow in this section is very low; a few garden hoses worth.

The Leontine section still has a tiny bit of flow, but hardly one garden hose worth. This flow does re-appear for Diana's Bath, the slide beyond, the Thalehaha, and the 2 raps beyond. After than it's pretty much totally dry.

Comment: I worked over landslide anchors and lines which chewed up over an hour. They still need help. Once at R2, the rest of the canyon run was smooth. The waterflow from the springs is solid, and the Leontine and lower have good flow (see pic) for so late season.

Comment: The land slide drop-in is its usual mess (special challenges), and it has changed quite a bit this year. From the junction (above R2), the canyon seems all the same with a nice bit of water flow after the springs.

Comment: The foggy climb up turned to bright Sun above the marine layer and then back into it on the way down the landslide. I did some more adjustments to the landslide anchors, but I need to get new ones installed. After the springs there is quite a bit of waterflow (see pic), but it easy enough to only get feet wet. However, entering Rubio Lenotine is a different story.

Comment: My adjustments on the landslide anchors early in the winter held up well. I spent a bunch of extra time setting up locations for further adjustments to the anchors so they will hold up better through the winters. Waterflow is "very low" (see pic), but given the chilly day a rain jacket and pants were nice.

Comment: The climb up the lone tree took 1:50 with a heavier than normal pack (extra rigging stuff and wetsuit for lower Rubio). I fixed up the landslide anchors and line positions for the winter storms, which took 3:30 (special challenges), making the trip 6.0 hours from car to R2. The rest of the run was 3.5 hours at a relaxed pace. The water flow was enough to get a bit wet on the big drops in the lower canyon (see pics).

Comment: I spent an extra 30 minutes trimming the Lone Tree trail on the way up, since some plants limbs were in the way. The canyon run was straightforward as the anchors are all still good. There were an amazing number of frogs from the springs all the way past the last rappel in lower Rubio. Water flow is quite significant in the lower canyon (see pic).

Comment: We hiked up the Lone Tree trail and down the landslide drop-in. Water flow is surprisingly present all the way through the canyon (after the springs), even at the last rappel in Lower Rubio (see pics). Water temp was warm enough not to even need a rain jacket at 66F.

Comment: Night run. Loved Willie's well-pruned drop in trail and multitude of fixed lines down the landslide. Thanks for all you do, Willie! Only got legs wet up until Leontine, then was showered in the waterfalls. Perfect conditions a few days after the tropical storm.

Comment: It was a warm day; 82F at 5 AM! So, even hiking up the Lone Tree trail was hot. I did a bit of work on the landslide anchors, thus pushing the run to over 6 hours. Water flow exists all the way through the canyon, even Lower Rubio.

Comment: I did a LOT of work trim up the landslide trail and cutting up other dead fall trees in the canyon, around 5 hours total. This past winter was hard on many plants, and some wound up covering the trail and blocking the canyon. Now access is much better. Water flow is quite high for the spring area, and stays solid through all lower Rubio (see pics).

Comment: I dropped in the landslide approach, and yes, it's a mess. Not just all the rocks and dirt that has moved in the slide itself, but the approach drop-in trail needs some serious trimming work on the Ceanothus bushes. Below the landslide, the canyon is nice and clean. Water flow from the springs is much higher than normal (see pic), and by the Leontine, it's enough that I'm glad I brought a wetsuit for the chilly day with heavy marine layer.

Comment: A gorgeous day. Did the Lone Tree approach, trail was unaffected by the recent storms, but the Gooseberry connector took a few more hits. The heavy rainfall also fully trashed the landslide drop-in, take extreme care, everything is very loose and hasn't settled yet. Crumbling skins of mud on everything. The last section of the landslide route saw a sizable chunk of the hillside fall just below the anchor, definitely recommend a rope for the last 100' because of how loose everything is... lots of fresh rockfall. We replaced the webbing on R2 in the normal route as it was very stiff and looked to have been pretty battered by the flooding. Very cleaned out, the remainder of the anchors in good condition. (A note on our time, we like to stop for snacks, look around and enjoy the canyon - so our group's time is never meant to be indicative of how long this canyon will take for someone who is just here for the route :)

Comment: We hiked up the Lone Tree trail to Muir Peak (4688 summit), and down the landslide drop-in. The canyon has been cleaned out again by the recent rains, making for a great run down. The water flow was light after the spring and continued past the Thalehaha, partly because the water company intakes were clogged up. Anchors are good, but there is a couple piece of webbing that are getting quite Sun bleached. It was quite warm for this time of year. We certainly took our dear sweet time on this run.
