Comments: Perfect day with ideal air and water temperatures. Parked the shuttle vehicle at the Pothole Trailhead at 34.512°, -118.761°. Since the beta was written you can now drive several miles past Lake Piru which makes the exit shorter!
Approach took 3:15 starting from the "alt parking" and had less trash than I recalled from an aborted run in 2020 -- seems nature is reclaiming the areas that had been artificially irrigated. Bushwhacking wasn't too bad and soon turned into easy walking along the wash. There were a few poison oak bushes but neither of us experienced significant symptoms later.
The technical section was incredible with many interesting downclimbs, deep pools, smooth polished conglomerate pour-offs, and a substantial force of waterflow in the main falls. The tree and rock fin mentioned for R6 were gone so we built a cairn. Ditto R9. Removed rotting webbing from an R10 alternate anchor. Technical section took 3:10.
The exit was another highlight of the day with plenty of water in Piru Creek, interesting route finding along the benches to the sides, and some walking in the creek through the narrows. Picked up the dirt road where the map predicted and it was smooth sailing from there. Ruby presented a spectacular outing and we would be excited to return.

Comment: Yo these approaches suck more than a 4 day old soggy bag of grandpa assholes. Unless you like poison oak, in which case why are you reading this? You've probably got some soul swapping poison oak immunity deal with some demon. Get out of here devil worshiper. Scram.
This could be a 5-star canyon. If you feel like putting yourself thru the misery because daddy doesn't love you (yeah, I'm talking to you), then do yourself a favor and hit me up for a better route. Otherwise stay at home and binge watch Tiger King.

Comment: Great little canyon. Beautiful scenery. Started approach around 7. Finished canyon a little after 2. Hiked out and eventually picked up by a very nice landowner a little after 6. We rebuilt all but one anchor. There are a few pools to avoid if you wish to keep your feet dry. With a strong group this trip can definitely be done in one long day. All around good fun.

Comment: Wow. What an incredibly beautiful place this is. Unlike anything else we have experienced in Southern California. We were able to run it by descending into upper Ruby Canyon off the fire road, and finishing on the paved road. We cut the last 2 miles off with a ride from a farmer. So 12 hours was for 15 miles, not the whole 17 miles. IT'S HARD. The anchors are all sketchy and natural. The floods of 2017 likely took out all but 1 of the original anchors, so we had to get creative. I would do this canyon again, but as a 2-day and with a campfire bivy. So beautiful!
