Comments: Time includes rappelling Sturtevant Falls on the exit. Parked at Chantry right at 6 and started down the trail in the dark. The canyon bottom was rough and overgrown intermittently in the section to Hermit Falls and we were glad to get some light. The ridge climb had plenty of animal trails to follow and the fire road was in excellent condition, having recently been bulldozed. 3:15 total approach time. Smooth sailing down the gully to the canyon floor and then a bit slower going down the main watercourse due to numerous fun boulder challenges and logs, although not too much painful bushwhacking. The R1 waterfall was beautiful and significantly higher than the beta indicated, more like 85' than 70', with the anchor tree another 30' back. Our rope wasn't long enough so we bypassed the waterfall DCL and rappelled off a tree. The watercourse became easier going after that and we soon saw the cabins marking the confluence with Big Santa Anita.
