Comments: Anchors were solid. A few slides, several swims. Was a bit cold by the end in a full 3/2 as air temps were moderate and it was fairly windy. Full 4/3 (or drysuit) would have been more ideal. Very slick rock. Accessed and descended the canyon on day one, explored the broader South Canyon area via packraft and hiked out on day two.

Comment: A great, short canyon to do from a rafting trip. Very high reward for low effort! If you're a rafter and a canyoneer and only do one canyon on a Grand trip, this should be it!
We left half our rafts at Shinumo Wash, floated about a mile to Fence Fault. There's an old, unmaintained trail to the top of the canyon. Our group was mixed in what we wore for cold water protection: one person in none, several in farmer Johns, most in full wetsuits, and one in a dry suit. Weather was warm, and we were all fine, with the person in no wetsuit being a little cool. The canyon is beautiful, with smooth light-colored walls and rappels, pools of water.

Comment: A lot about this route is big. Big drive. Big hikes and elevation shifts in and out. Massive views! Relatively big cost, for a canyon (for two of us: $40 for the recreation.gov camping permit, and $30 for tribal lands access). Current kml track is more a guess than actual trail. The latter can be tricky to stay on, but boulder hopping along the floor works too. Technically section is pretty but short, with 4-5 bolted raps, all with easy pull lines. Frosty pools, some overgrown with a strange rod-shaped surface algae I’ve never seen anywhere else. We floated to and camped at Fence Fault so gear could dry out overnight. Outhike is a grind, but the vastness and geology (we ran across fossils and flint) keep it interesting.

Comment: We did the loop starting from the river. All pools were full, with ice encrusted on the topmost pool, but with drysuits we stayed comfy.
