Comments: Approach up the PCT and an off-trail segment to the canyon took 3:10. Canyon was very charming with lots of cool, clean water. After a few downclimbs I came to the 200' multi-step rappel and used Swaney's anchor, a tree DCL. After that rappel I may have stayed too far DCR away from the watercourse because there were a couple of moderate downclimbs next rather than another rappel. In fact, the entire rest of West Fork down to the confluence was down-climbable, with even easier terrain below that. So I only did one rappel total. Descent to the confluence took 1:15, then it was another 0:45 of boulder hopping until I got close to the forbidden zone. At this point I left the watercourse to the left and contoured around the perimeter of the forbidden zone and then down to the PCT shortly before it got to the road. This off-trail exit took only 45 minutes to the road or 65 minutes to the trailhead and had minimal elevation gain.
