Comment: Pools potentially avoidable, good day out. Be competent, stay safe.

Left a clear Nalgene with an orange cap somewhere in the technical section, orange cord with green carabiner attached, if you find it and feel like returning, I would appreciate it.

Comment: Parked the car at the exit and walked on the road to the canyon. Went by easily. Soap is still flowing! Each of the rappels were out of the watercourse and we had no problems avoiding the pools. At the second rappel we noticed the flow beginning to increase below us indicating the ice further up canyon was melting. This didn’t become an issue. At the second rappel through the boulder chalks, there was about 60’ of fresh black webbing set up to bypass the watercourse. We repurposed the webbing to rebuild the second rappel and stayed in the canyon. At this time we still weren’t sure if the next pool could be avoided. Ended up being able to thanks to the rappel off the boulder DCL. We used the anchor DCL at the last rap as well and meandered to the river and back. The hike out was pleasant too! All in all a quality day out.

Comment: Soap Creek with Flow! Well.. a trickle. A small stream throughout the whole canyon, a couple deep wades through the narrows section. Temps were great and sun on the way out felt great. Bypassed first pour-off from bridge. From there, pinchpoint below giant chockstone boulder. Sandtrapped the next short drop to avoid a blind plunge into the waist deep pool. Stemmed the next to use the deadman anchor out of the narrows. Used DCL anchor for final rappel. Exit was pleasant and engaging, with a few fun boulder problems. Water in lower canyon tastes terrible even after filtration, bring plenty.

Comment: One cold swimmer, but out and in to Sun fast. Setup cairn anchor into pool after R2. Muddy. Fun scramble out on a few places.

Comment: Light flow throughout the canyon, replaced anchor for R1.. One very cold swimmer, chose to wear a wetsuit through the narrows and didn’t regret it. Lots of slippery mud, but nothing overly deep to sink into.

Comment: Replaced webbing at R2 and R3. Bypassed most the narrows on a shelf canyon right as they included several seemingly deep, uninviting pools of mud. Used boulder anchor canyon left for R4 which had a large but shallow mud pool at the base. It was avoided by swinging onto a ledge below the undercut section. Scrambling up the South Fork was fun but exposed to the heat - which this time of year on this particular weekend was rather unpleasant.

Comment: a mild amount of mud. R2 was a bit tricky to find but not too bad, just look for the little hole above the slot.

R4: the large boulder LDC is perfect and clean...no need to even consider going right. Return up the south fork was mostly easy with the occasional tricky climb and not something I'd want to do in the dark.

Comment: Lovely route. Used last rapp rdc, anchor looked solid, but some loose rock did come down with last man down. Fun overhanging rapp, but stay clear of rock fall, or use anchor LDC.

Just under 7 hours included a trip to the river and 30 minute lunch break. Although we did not have to rig any anchors, we feel the time estimate is reasonable and accurate.

The return up the north fork was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed bouldering breaks along the way. One steep section on the return has a rope ladder rigged and a spare static rope for emergencies. Thought this was a fun and awesome touch.

Overall an amazing canyon, scenic, and fun!

Comment: Scenic but quite muddy. Under current conditions, a rain jacket is advisable on R3. R4 is dry, but has an interesting overhung lip to pass on rappel.

Completion time reflects north fork parking to river only - we exited via Rider the next day.

Comment: Water flow through the upper part and technical portion. Webbing was good on the first 3 raps. at the last rap we rigged off of the relatively fresh webbing RDC and as the first person was going down they dislodged a big chunk of the undersurface of the overhang! We called it off and went LDC, replaced crispy webbing there and rapped the less exciting but safer route down that side (mostly ledges, with ~25 ft of free hang). I feel like the time estimate on this page doesn't include the walk to the river.
