Comments: Our team of 8 rappellers rigged two ropes: one continuous 1300' rope for descending and ascending and one rope of two ~800' ropes bent together. The ropes were rigged on opposite sides of the pit. We missed out on the best rig point (redirect off of the tree on the west side), since some Mexican cavers beat us there. Both sides were rigged with pigtails/access lines so we could climb out tandem and still cross the lip with ease. The first few rappels went very slowly, due largely to the condition of the rope. Despite using full or even extended racks, rappels were very slow and uneven. The group decided only 6 would make it into the pit and back out in the short window allotted us by the park management/local tourist bureau (see red tape section). (This limitation and the increasing red tape and fees are reflected in the Quality score.) Once three were down, one pair began climbing the knotted rope tandem. Once this rope was clear, a second pair climbed this rope again and the last two climbed back up the continuous (unknotted) rope. All climbs were completed in 60-80 mins per pair, with all climbers using ropewalkers. The weather was gorgeous: a great break after several days of midday or all-day rain.
