Comments: I hiked this hollow on a hot day in July. The midday temp was above 90. July is typically a dry month and 2024 was no exception. However, the week before our descent Tropical Storm Beryl dropped a few inches of rain across the Buffalo watershed. Still, the river was really low (the USGS gauge height at Ponca was 1.8’) and the hollow was dry, but there was still a deep pool at the base of the last rappel. Even though this hollow is short, it’s a worthy destination for a half day hike if you’re in the area. The splash down rappel is quite nice and I can’t think of another like it.
