Comment: Ridge approach was much better than anticipated, we bailed on the brushy fully. Replaced R4 webbing, now all looks good and new, with single loop or strand of black webbing. Please maintain this.

Comment: R1 & R3 replaced, R4 may need replacing soon. Saw someone had difficulty with R1, it's the only small pine near the watercourse, backed up against a prickly pear cactus, you'll see webbing tucked and bent around the rock to avoid the cactus, just take a second and walk up to it, easy rap and smooth pull RDC. Be aware, agave at R1 & R4 base might catch and tangle your rope, so mitigate respectively.

Plan on bringing 40ft webbing minimum to clear old tat, didn't expect this for a low rap # canyon, R1 requires about 8-10ft alone but could potentially be downclimbed RDC, R3 about 15 ft (if extending webbing for prime pull) and R4 is slung around a big boulder, maybe 15-20ft of webbing unless changing anchor (Just bring the webbing, this boulder is best).

Overall great sunset walking out and highly recommend the extra miles for the easy route taking bear mountain trail.

Comment: Found all of the anchors to be in good condition. The water pools were shallow and easily navigated by stepping over them or using stemming techniques. Overall, I had a great experience exploring this canyon and would highly recommend it.

Comment: We took the original approach and found it very easy- almost all the hiking is on a pretty well defined trail even after leaving the main bear mtn trail. We couldn’t for the life of us find R1 anchor, so we selected a pine tree pretty farDCR and slightly out of the watercourse, and slung some brownish green webbing there. I don’t think it was the original anchor point because the rappel was only about 20ft, but it was an easy get off and good pull and got us past the first obstacle so it worked! Remaining anchors in good shape. The final sequence r3-4 is incredible ! Beautiful views and free hanging. This is definitely an easy to access but veryhigh value route that I’d repeat!!

Comment: Anchors looked good on all rappels for lower sun bear. We noticed new rock fall in the upper section (the chasm). Lower Sun Bear had a drip of water. The big pool was too high to stem so we bypassed it. We were able to set the last rappel anchor out of the watercourse and stay dry.

Comment: We took the 4th class climbing approach and it did not disappoint! It is a bit exposed and certain spots are a spicy but so much fun! The route itself is fun, straight forward, and relatively easy. With the shorter approach this route doesn't take very long to complete. Highly recommend especially if you are short on time.

Comment: A great quickie canyon that offers alot of bang for your buck!

We approached up the 4th climb which is very fun and engaging! Definitely recommend this approach as it really adds to the route! We bypassed R1 easily DCR. The 2 big drops are in direct succession and feel bigger than they are! All anchors in good shape.

Very worthwhile canyon for those looking to squeeze every ounce out of a day and perfect for late afternoon/dusk as it is West facing and the sunset in the background is always top notch!!

40 min route. 40 min exit. We moved quickly but still had a great time. Slight trickle and slime towards the end of the route. 100' to take last rappel all the way down. Using the Cem for a retrievable anchor worked well.

Comment: A delightful little route! Much better than I was ever expecting!

We approached via the 4th class route by the abandoned house. The road to this approach is pretty rutted out and high clearance is needed. We started hiking at 5pm with some nice cloud cover. This 4th class approach was super fun and engaging! Very vertical scrambling with some careful moves required! Once atop the peninsula the views are spectacular and an easy hike over to the canyon.

The various sculpted pools throughout the canyon are very pretty

The last 2 free hanging drops feel larger than they are and the canyon surrounding that area is really special and photogenic.

The hike back to the trucks was easy and of little grade.

We moved at a moderate and efficient pace. 2hrs, 5min. No shuttle.

Was smiling throughout. Definitely would repeat!

Comment: We saw a lot of frogs making babies and 2 rattle snakes on the exit. Removed some extra webbing. A fair amount of shade on the route. 4th class approach was solid.

Comment: KML file spot on, took the class 4 route. WARNING: If you easily let heights get into your head, DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS 4 ROUTE! One in our party got really nervous and froze for about 1/2 an hour. Class 4 route is fun and very doable, but there is definitely some exposure.

All pools were totally dry as it is wicked hot in Sedona right now. Replaced one piece of crusty webbing on the last rap. Did this in the evening and it was magical.

Comment: Took the longer approach from the Bear MTN trailhead. Easy trail to follow and very scenic, worth the extra distance on a shorter canyon day anyways.

All the tat was in good condition. Clean pulls.

Love the super burly and large quicklinks on the raps. I imagine these canyons get a lot of traffic. Little PSA, that if youre using a knot block for raps to make sure your carabineer can't slip through the link.

I started to rig with a medium locker and realized it could move through the link. HMS locker or fig 8s for those blocks.

Fun run with kegn.

4th class approach is our favorite.
