Comments: A very rugged and semi-interesting canyon with a few neat features.
The approach is VERY steep and slippery down hill. We eventually bailed out of the steep drainage, following the KML along a ridge, downclimbing small bushy ledges until we came to a large 2 stage ledge and suitable tree to set rappel on. This first rappel is an annoying bushwhack down. There is another tree on the 2nd ledge that would lend itself to a much cleaner rappel but the dense brush would need clearing around it with a saw.
Throughout the canyon there was some neat areas but nothing crazy spectacular by any means. R3 was particularly memorable and probably the only really nice rappel, others were just okay. Spent considerable time teaching a beginner various skills throughout.
The exit started okay but quickly turned terrible. The soil is super loose throughout and the grade very steep. Rocks are easily dislodged and handholds become nearly non existent. Once to the top of the small mesa it gets much better. We followed the KML through the woods but rather than turning left heading out of the way to the final drainage, we B-lined it up the forested hill to the top. This ended up being a great idea; no bushwhacking, solid ground, and direct. I see no reason to head over to the 2nd drainage.
Overall this canyon had some neat stuff to see but it was minimal. That's not to say it's a bad canyon by any means, but in my opinion, there are far better, more fulfilling canyons nearby.
An experienced team could likely shave 2 hours off our time.
