Comments: I started at noon. Knowing this was a tad late, I put some pep in my step to get over to R1. On approach I stayed way high on the far left side of the hill, out of the drainage. I eventually followed the nose of the hill down to meet the Secret Canyon drainage and immediately back up the next hill. Plenty of game trails to follow. Atop the 2nd hill, I stayed in the flat woods above the Voodoo drainage B lining it over and down the nose dropping into Voodoo a little before R1. This shaved off a ton of time and the approach only took me 1 hr.

By 1pm the canyon is very shaded, missing alot of it’s mystical glow, definitely better to get an early start on this one for the best lighting. I replaced a couple damaged anchors throughout and added a knot chock anchor to get out of the big slotted corridor. Technical section took me 2hrs.

Exit is clean until near the end of Secret’s drainage where it gets brushy and then thorny getting up to the saddle. On the final hill climb I stayed on the nose to the right which seemed to be an easier line. Exit took me 3hrs.

There were 2 knee to waist deep pools in canyon and 1 on exit.

Any day spent in nature is a good day :)

Comment: A good canyon that makes you earn it.

The fall colors were amazing. Wet bear paw marks on rock within the route and exit. Bring webbing and be prepared for some anchor maintenance. Some anchors had washed out completely, only a matter of time until the remaining logjams are un-usable or gone and potentially problematic in some featureless areas… Eric: “I liked the bolt-less nature of this canyon, and enjoyed figuring it out with our team.”

Comment: A fairly pretty canyon route that is enjoyable from start to finish!

The approach feels kinda long and drawn out but not at all bad. The forest is pretty and not overly bushy. Thorns were few and far between. Easy enough hiking.

The canyon was interesting and green with lots of pretty okay rappels and a few decent ones. One of the more enjoyable ones drops you into an un-expected dimly lit slot with a pool at the bottom.

Lots of deep pools to wade through, and one very cold swim! However, a sunny rock to lay on isn't too far away. Unfortunately neither are the flies. They were the bane of our existence on this trip...

As we went the canyon kept getting more interesting with more un-expected surprises around every turn. Small slotted sections spaced out with lush forest in between. Lots to see on this one!

We also climbed up into the lower end of the Sunburst slot to explore a bit.

The exit, while also very long, was super pretty and kept us excited the whole way through! Much of the exit is rock hopping through a beautiful sculpted rock waterway with a few quick climbs here and there. Very little elevation gain until the last quarter. One of the most enjoyable exits I've done!

This canyon just kept throwing pleasant surprises our way from end to end. Loved the old world forest vibe. Kept us smiling and saying to ourselves "wow! it just keeps going!" A very neat and memorable route for sure!

Spent a lot of time guiding a beginner though this one, an experienced team could probably shave 1-2 hours off.

Comment: A good canyon.

All anchors looked good. All rappels under 70'. Approach feels tedious as you pass Sunburst canyon and trudge up to a ridge to drop in the other side. Seemed more prestine and wild than Sunburst and had more rappels. Exit is a bit long as well.

3 hour approach 3 hour canyon 3.5 hour exit
