Comments: 2014 was a higher snowpack year than previous winters. The spring melt was still in effect for Ouray canyons in late June and the water volume for Ouray canyons dropped off in early July. The Wetterhorn catchment is simply larger than others in the area and has a higher water volume, making it unsafe in places where all the flow comes together. Waiting later in the season will help assure successful conditions including the melt out of at least one snowbridge from avalanche debris. Significant water flow was avoidable for our descent.
