Comment: Time reflects link with Magic. Was a potentially cool area but in terms of technical descents and canyoneering, this one lacks any draw. The intermittent area between rappels is cool but really has no extra value when compared to the rest of heartwell, canyoneering or not. I really didn't enjoy it too much.
Webbing looks great.

Comment: There is no KML for this approach but you can follow the approach for Magic & you’ll pass the approach to Windtalker on the way through. There’s two small scrambly sections but they’re easy to pass. Just a bit of exposure- no class 4. Once you pass the last bit of exposed scramble, go up into the trees and walk left, then follow the watercourse over the edge and the bolts are there. The first rap had two sections of black webbing, one was worn & a very crispy light grey (started as black) and the other seemed like a useless redundant that was also very worn. I removed both sets of webbing and replaced them with brand new red webbing & a new screw link/d-link/quick link (whatever your preferred terminology is). Rap says 200’, my rope was sold as a 200’ static rope and we had enough rope with stretch to do the full rap & a bit of spare footage as well. I haven’t measured the exact distance of my rope though. The pull is two 90 degree turns so HIGHLY recommend you fiddle this first pull. Rap is beautiful. R1.5 is off of a tree & the webbing looked fine. R2 is 50’ off of two bolts in the watercourse. Webbing was in good condition when we went. R3 the webbing was wearing. Had two spots I wasn’t comfortable with so it was cut & re-tied to exclude those two spots. Still plenty of length to successfully complete the rap & have an easy rappel. Might need more webbing by the time someone else comes through depending on the date. This isn’t a very heavily trafficked canyon, but it is incredibly beautiful!! I don’t think I’d recommend this for beginner. Intermediate+ would be fine.

Comment: Straightforward approach with minimal brush. The gully hike is taxing but not too long and views across canyon are incredible. Found it easiest to scramble up the slab (3rd/4th class depending on your route). Pull on R1 could be tricky as it’s around a corner, use good rope management. Re-measured R1 at 200’. Webbing was in ok shape, will need replacing soon. Exited RDC after R3 and then hopped back into the drainage and took it a short ways to the main wash. Both Windtalker and Magic will be lots of fun with runoff.
