Introduction[edit]

A very short canyon in the far north Black Mountains, near Golden Canyon. Sort of a different option from Golden Goose. It has 3 rappels, but the 1 big free-hang rappel in Golden Goose is probably greater than the sum of the shorter Golden Fleece rappels.

There is a bottom up approach, or you could descend Golden Goose, then cut over to the top of Golden Fleece before the final rappel.

Like everything in this area, expect moderate choss.

Approach[edit]

Start up the drainage north of Golden Goose, then quickly turn right and hike steeply up the ridge. Then head south, cutting across Golden Goose and dropping into the next drainage (This wash also leads to drops, but the drainage area is small, so the choss situation is probably pretty bad in there. Haven't tried it). Then keep going up and over another ridge to get into the Golden Fleece wash. Then hike down the wash.

Descent[edit]

There is a short rappel off a cairn anchor, a longer rappel off a rock horn (toggle works well here) and then another short rappel out of the canyon.

Exit[edit]

Ends near your car.
