Trip reports and media[edit]

April 12, 2019: 5 people - 6 hours in canyon, 8 hours camp to camp. Upper half waist deep, lower half several swimmers. Approach from Millers Camp 2.05 miles, 1350 gain, 1.5 hours. Happy Dog Arch at the drop in is well worth the 5 minutes side trip. First rappel 60' from sandtrap, followed quickly by 40' rappel off tree. Upper section has a short but very awkward narrows. Third rappel 140' off bolts. 1000 foot long narrows starts soon after the third rappel. Fourth rappel, 40' single bolt. Lower narrows although much longer was straightforward. Shortly after the end of the narrows is the final rappel sequence and the hallmark of the route. Fifth rappel 80' single bolt. Sixth and final rappel 140' off bolts into a beautiful grotto with crystal clear water and crawdads.

Background[edit]

This canyon was called 'S Canyon' on the first descent by Mike Bogart, Mary Dern, Janice Hansen, & Dennis Turville on May 16, 1978 [canyon name database].
