Introduction[edit]
This route is labeled restricted as it drops down in direct view of a local ranch, directly in their back yard.
The land owner has expressed his frustration with many a canyoneer’s noise level, hearing gear clinking and loud voices all the way down the route (canyon funnels sounds directly to his house). Additionally, many canyoneers have taken a short cut, walking straight down the wash on his private trail, past his house, through his property.
In his frustration, the land owner chopped the bolts that were placed for the final anchor…
This route does land on the edge of his property line but not within it.
PLEASE DO YOUR PART TO PRESERVE FRAGILE LANDOWNER RELATIONS AND THIS BEAUTIFUL ROUTE.
- Use walkie-talkies for communication.
- No loud voices or whistles. Keep voices low.
- Keep gear noise to a minimum, avoid clinking carabiners
- Trail rope bags, do not throw
If you choose to descend this route, please do so with extreme care to stay unnoticed!
Approach[edit]
Take Loy Canyon trail 1 mile to a cropped and barkless tree that stands in the middle of the trail. Take a left at this landmark onto a social trail up to the main alcove.
After visiting the alcove go back to the trail and follow it south west up to a prominent saddle. Continue along the saddle and along the striped cliff face on the west side of the saddle. You will see and obvious Large Ponderosa pine on the other side of the saddle. Continue past this pine tree following the faint trail along the cliff face to a break in the cliff band and up to the next shelf. Traverse this shelf to r1.
Shorter and more bushy, yet quicker approach alternatives exist. The current approach follows an already developed social trail and is one reason why this route is worth doing. Enjoy!
Please respect all dwelling cites, and artifacts along the way.
Descent[edit]
Preserve the peace
Downclimb LDC of Huge boulder in water course.
R1: 90' off pinch and bolt LDC.
R2: 40' off tree LDC or downclimb at boulder.
R3: 40' off rock pinch In boulder pile LDC or downclimb RDC.
R4: 270’ (aprox.) off small juniper tree RDC
On R4, stop at last big ledge before the concrete wall below. Pull rope here to avoid rope getting stuck in trees on ledge.
Exit[edit]
Pull rope from ledge then dowclimb LDC to lower tier. Cross over drainage on lower shelf to Right, then exit RUC. Once at the nose or edge of the right side drop down to the lower shelf or ground. cross a drainage to an oddly placed walkway with a pet cemetary and shrine. Exit behind the white cross at the shrine walkway, and over the hil to the road, avoiding the main drives into the property.
Tread lightly, follow the track, and respect the property to avoid any issues.
Red tape[edit]
Last rappel lands close to private land.
Please stay clear of the ranch in view on the exit and be mindful of noise levels. Hug the cliff band RDC to avoid trespassing and help us preserve access to these incredibly special places.
