Introduction

A VERY pretty canyon. While it never quite slots up, there are a few short sections where escape would be impossible. The water is stunningly clear, like Polynesia, and there are multiple jumps and swims. For such a short approach and exit, this one is definitely worth the time. Unlike neighboring Río Verde, no permits are required.

  • The town of Lentegi on the approach
  • Approach

Leave a car at the bottom (end of the canyon) and another at the start of the canyon. If you only have one car, you can park in the town of Lentegí, walk to the start, do the canyon, and hitchhike back up to the town from the end of the canyon. From the parking area, walk down the obvious trail, making a right at the only intersection on a crest. The approach should take less than 30 minutes. Suit up at the water.

  • The approach trail
  • Descent

Stay in the main stream. You'll find about 13 bolted rappels, none more than 24 meters. Some jumps are possible, but always check first. There are a few parts with light bushwhacking and easy boulder hopping. Near the end, the canyon will have some hoses which the farmers use to take out water. Please leave these alone to maintain good relationships between canyoneers and the locals.

  • A small, fun jump
  • The largest rappel
  • A small 'nuisance' rappel
  • One of multiple small waterfalls near the end
  • A small jump through bushes into a shallow pool
  • Rappel off nice bolts
  • Exit

The canyon will soon come to a road on the right. Exit here and walk down it, along the canyon, for five minutes to your shuttle vehicle.

    Red tape

No permits required, no red tape.
