Introduction[edit]

Little Dolores Falls is an interesting little canyon, but it so short both rappels can be done with one 150ft rope fixed at the top. This is more of a swimming hole than a canyon and the rappels are most likely considered jumps (verify depth first) by many locals.

This canyon section cuts through a small section of Precambrian Granite in Glade Park on the top of Pinon Mesa southwest of Grand Junction and the Colorado National Monument.

Approach[edit]

Drive from Grand Junction on Monument Road to Glade Park on top of Pinon Mesa. Monument Road is legal thoroughfare to Glade Park and a National Park pass is not required to drive through the monument.

Walk a short distance downhill from the parking area, turning right down the dirt road. Follow a wide use trail that veers off to the left from the road to the river.

Descent[edit]

Warning People do jump Little Dolores Falls, but it is not a good idea as it has taken several lives.

Fix a 150ft rope around a large tree on Canyon Left at the start of the canyon. One 150ft rope can cover both rappels and reaches the final pool.

Exit[edit]

A social trail on Canyon Right traverses the right a short ways. A short climb to the right regains the rock shelf and leads back to the top of the canyon. Retrieve the rope and walk the trail back to the car.

  • Retrieve the 150' fixed rope from the tree on Canyon Left
  • Red tape[edit]
