Introduction
This is a short red rock canyon off Soldiers Pass road. If you learn its ways and grab it when its flowing its really a charm. Its open based and can be exited in many places, its not a slot canyon, but its very fun. Can be done in conjunction with nearby The Sedona Subway in a day.
Approach
Take the Soldiers Pass Trail from Soldiers Pass road past Morning Glory rock. Keep a lookout on your right for slickrock leading to the bench above where there is a weakness in the small band. Gain the top of that band and walk along the rimtop to the canyon. OR with a shuttle leave a car at Soldiers Pass TH and drive over to the Brins TH. Hike the Brains Trail, and upon topping out on the mesa drop into the start of this drainage following it to the first rap. This is an easier approach. Either way be careful of crypto soils, walk on slickrock and be cautious of the many sensitive soils around you.
For increased value and decreased time, approach through arches cave, climb out, and head east on ridge to 1st anchor. This approach makes for a more memorable experience.
Descent
R1: 90' 2 stages off a tree. Caution!! large boulder at the start.
Downclimb slickrock bowl to R2.
R2: 80' Bolts LDC near the edge.
R3: 25' LDC off tree.
R4: 60' LDC off small tree, or easy downclimb.
Exit
From final rap hike the drainage staying in the wash to avoid damage to soils until you get to the Soldiers Pass trail. Hike out.
Red tape
Inspect the first anchor, it has been damaged in the past and appeared cut by hikers once. AS ALWAYS, inspect ALL anchors.
