Introduction[edit]

A short but unique rappel sequence dropping midway off the scenic approach to Gordon’s Ridge. Not your traditional canyon, but more like 3 stunt rappels that will warm you up for the good stuff close by.. The second rappel takes you down into a narrow crack which is not recommended for those >200 lb. Looking across canyon you can see the insta-famous subway and the several tourists who earlier asked you for directions.

Combine Paradise Cove with Slingshot, Manzanita, or Chopper Drop for an excellent Boynton circuit that can be completed in under 6 hours.

Approach[edit]

Take Boynton Canyon trail to the turnoff for Gordon’s Ridge. After a short distance, leave the wash and make your way up to the first bench. Follow the social trail to a 20’ class IV chimney (PG rating). The views from above here are spectacular. Finally, continue up a section of semi-exposed slab to the next shelf and make your way over to R1.

Descent[edit]

All anchors are off trees.

R1: 40’ into an alcove.

R2: 65’ into narrow crack. Drop down to the first ledge. Remove pack and hang below you. The crack could eat a biner, figure 8, or knot block…and a bight from a fiddlestick or CEM could catch on bushes below the anchor. Recommend LAMAR rappels double strand to alleviate the risk of pull issues.

R3: 50’ immediately after second rappel. Set the pull RDC away from crack.

Exit[edit]

Navigate RDC to the wash and hike Boynton Canyon trail back to your vehicle.

Better yet, cross the canyon and go run one of the other nearby routes.
