Introduction[edit]
This canyon is described in limited detail in Canyons Near Sydney by Rick Jamieson. Help the Australian canyoning community by contributing track notes to ropewiki.com
The upper section is a lovely bushwalk through several S-Bends cutting between pagodas and forming shallow but pretty canyons. No abseils in the upper section, various pools typically below waist deep, albeit the first real section of canyon has 2 or 3 plunge pools that can be avoided with some simply bridging and traversing.
The lower section (Rick Jamieson guidebook grid reference) has a few short drops - the 4th drop requires a short abseil anchored from an arch/pocket high right (looking downcanyon), the other drops can all be down-climbed but the safety of a rope might be prudent.

Background[edit]
Rick Jamieson says the name Popeye Canyon is derived from the fact you pop-in and pop-out of canyon sections several times throughout the day.
