Introduction[edit]
Another route in a lonely and infrequently explored section of Big Tujunga.
Approach[edit]
Park your car on the south side of Big Tujunga Road here: 34.2875, -118.2250 Look for seven 4' tall rusted metal pylons (debris flow moderator) on the north side of the road, the Condor Peak trail starts here.
Hike the Condor Peak Trail for about 45 minutes until you reach the drop-in for Fusier Canyon (Left Fork) and Vogel Canyon (Sunyata Fork) At this point you will continue off-trail to the N-NE. Stay on the ridgeline until you reach the drop-in at 34.30615, -118.20910
Looking at Sangha Branch from the east:
Descent[edit]
There are several down-climbs in the upper section, the canyon is nearly brush-free and you will mostly be on exposed bedrock.
The only rappel in this branch is a 150'er, anchored off a cairn anchor. This is the view of the down-climb to the bench where you will need to anchor, currently a plethora of rocks to anchor off of.
Bottom of 150' rap R1:
After completing the rap, you will continue down an undocumented drainage until you arrive at the confluence with the Anicca Fork. In this Fork you will encounter 2 additional rappels: R2--30' R3--30-40'
You will then enter Vogel Canyon a short time later.
Looking back at Anicca Fork:
In Vogel Canyon you will encounter one additional rappel R4--50'
Exit[edit]
When you reach Big Tujunga Road turn left (east) and walk a short distance back to your vehicle.
