Introduction

A short adventure that might be good for beginners.

Approach

Drive:
Just East of Dinosaur, CO at the Canyon Vistor Center, drive north on Harper's Corner Rd for 25.5 miles. Harper's Corner Rd is paved. Along the way, a bathroom is available at the Plug Hat Butte parking and dispersed camping is available down Blue Mountain Road.

Turn right toward Echo Park at Sand Canyon Road, which is easily passable with 4WD HC in dry conditions. Drive Sand Canyon Rd 7.5 miles to the intersection with Yampa Bench Road. Echo Park is to the left.

Instead turn right on Yampa Bench Road / Mantle Ranch Road for 11.3 miles, which is also easily passable with 4WD HC in dry conditions, but has a few places requiring more careful driving lines.

Park at the Bull Canyon Trailhead.

Hike:
Walk West on the road for a few hundred feet and proceed downhill in a sandstone wash on the right. Before the wash steepens, grab a game trail to the southwest to enter into West Serviceberry Wash or continue down the sandstone wash.

Descent

R1: 65' from a deadman

R2: 100' from a tree on Canyon Left

Exit

When West Serviceberry Draw joins Bull Canyon, turn upstream to the right and return to the car in the drainage of Bull Canyon, bypassing one obstacle on Canyon Right. Intersect the Bull Canyon Trail on Canyon Left (right up canyon)

Red tape

A National Park's pass or a Dinosaur National Monument entrance fee is required.
