Introduction[edit]

Wetsuit recommended.

Approach[edit]

The canyon starts as for Coin Slot Canyon by scrambling up the steep and exposed ridge to the top of the coin slot. Walk further upstream and cross the gully (no need to abseil) and scramble up the other side before scrambling up to the top of the ridge. There are some great views on the way up. Make your way across the top of the ridge and drop into a feeder creek on the other side. Follow this down into the main creek where the canyon begins.

Descent[edit]

There were a few pools and swims and several abseils of varying length, up to about 20m or 30m. It is not a frequently visited canyon as some abseils may not have anchors or tape slings may be old. Take enough slings and maillons to replace or build any missing anchors.

Exit[edit]

Continue down stream until you reach the Capertee River. Cross this and then bush bash to reach the fire trail. Follow this back to the campground.
