"Replaced two slings and had to build an anchor at the top of the 20 metre waterfall abseil.. Some pitches have tricky rope pulls due to low anchor

Introduction[edit]

Wetsuit recommended.

Approach[edit]

The canyon starts as for Coin Slot Canyon by scrambling up the steep and exposed ridge to the top of the coin slot. Walk further upstream and cross the gully (no need to abseil) and scramble up the other side before scrambling up to the top of the ridge. There are some great views on the way up. Make your way across the top of the ridge and drop into a feeder creek on the other side. Most of the drops in the creek can be walked around but a rope may be needed in a few places. Follow this down into the main creek where the canyon begins. It is also possible to follow the ridge down to the creek but a small abseil down from the cliff line to the creek is required.

Descent[edit]

Exit[edit]

Continue down stream until you reach the Capertee River. Cross this and then bush bash to reach the fire trail. Follow this back to the campground.
