Introduction[edit]

Another West Clear Creek Canyon trip with terrible approach roads.

A good 4WD will get you close enough and you can just hike the road the rest of the way (if necessary). This may stretch the trip out to more like 5 - 7 miles depending on where you park.

Approach[edit]

Take your high clearance, 4WD vehicle out to Calloway TH (AKA Trail 33). Park here, and backtrack a ways down the road then branch off and enter the canyon where indicated on the KML.

Descent[edit]

20' downclimb

15' downclimb / partner assist

R1: 130' off a rock pinch in the watercourse. Two-stage through a middle section with a pool which may be carefully avoided on canyon left.

R2: 50' from another pinch. Followed by an immediate swim or deep wade.

R3: 20' or possible downclimb.

R4: 35' with some overhang.

Exit[edit]

Make your way upstream, finding rough use trails on either side to avoid walking in the slippery creek bed. After an S-bend, look for several prominent cairns on the right marking a trail which will take you up to a rough road that can be followed back to your vehicle.
