"2 in 1 because exit canyon is more pretty than the technical one. We changed the webbing on R 1,2,4,5. Deep pools, all easily avoidable except the R 3 |

Introduction[edit]
A rugged canyon with a few rappels, nice scenery, and interesting geology located just outside of the Sierra Ancha Wilderness boundary. The exit drainage has some unique sculpted sandstone sections which are more enjoyable when flowing.
The canyon itself has a few shallow constrictions but is fairly low commitment overall. For nearby options with a higher commitment factor, consider Scavenger Canyon or Big Faddy.
Approach[edit]
Turn off the 288 and park along one of the forest roads by the provided pin. High clearance vehicle recommended.
Hike about 15 minutes through the pines to the start of the canyon.
Descent[edit]
Note: The route was established during wet / icy conditions. It's likely that when dry some of the raps could be downclimbed.
All rappels are positioned in the watercourse - run after recent precipitation for a more enjoyable experience.
R1: 120’ off tree RDC. Recommend trailing rope for the first 40’ and watching for loose rock (though much of it has been cleaned). Shallow pools at the bottom.
R2: 35’ off tree center canyon.
R3: 20’ off knot chock RDC into waist depth pool (when full).
R4: 35’ off rock pinch center canyon.
R5: 40’ off off rock pinch LDC.
Exit[edit]
Follow the canyon down to where it enters a larger drainage. Turn left and head up this drainage. There are some scenic sections of carved sandstone and easy climbing obstacles to navigate.
A quicker exit may be possible by following the drainage up for about 0.5 miles, then scrambling up to the rim LUC (reference KML for possible route / exit point).
Alternatively, continue up this drainage bypassing two large drops near the end and hiking through the woods to an old forest road. Follow the road system back to your vehicle.
