Comments: The hike to Bear climbs the steep mountainside, and the scenery is incredibly spectacular in every direction. The canyon itself features uniquely beautiful and unusual rock formations, some great rappels within the flow, and an overall fun experience for everyone. The water flow was moderate or maybe moderate flow. We decided to build two new anchors in the canyon to rappel rappel directly in the flow and spice it up. The other existing anchors and bolts were in good condition. Water was cold and I was happy to be wearing a thicker 5/4 wetsuit.

Comment: A pretty decent canyon. Great for a half day adventure and a bit of pounding flow.
We took our time, moving at a leisurely pace. The hike up wasnt bad, all on trail. Elevation leveled out once at the top of the switchbacks. We dropped in “early” instead of going all the way up to the mine and back down again. This makes the most sense and doesnt skip any raps. I have a hard time seeing how this early drop in is causing erosion like beta says since it is mostly on solid rock... The canyon was pretty in parts. Lots of neat features to see here and there, albeit much less grander than other canyons nearby. Most of the rappels are rigged out of the water course with a few having options to rappel directly in flow (which was pretty solid). However, none of the raps were particularly exciting except maybe the last one, and the largest one, which was only 80’. There is alot of boulder hopping and down climbing between a few of the raps. One long section of walking in open boulder filled creek bed that was pretty enough but got annoying after awhile. My 4/3 wetsuit was plenty comfy for me. Overall it was a good quickie but there are others in the area I’d sooner repeat.
