Comment: We added on Angles landing to the approach. The rangers laughed at us as we carried all the ropes and our canyoneering gear out there (since they no longer allow stashing packs near angles landing). A great quote from NPS who knew we were also going to Behunin that day, "Unfortunately, you made the decision to bring a rope" 😂 We caught the first shuttles in from the visitor center, but even with as early as a start as possible, we caught the heat of the day on the the approach hike that was 100F+ due to a heat wave. The hike was slow due to the heat and we went through water much faster than normal, but we were prepared to tab+filter and opted to at the pool that is sometimes a swim after R6. Although the rappel into the pool was not a swim, there was enough water at that position to filter (no one got sick). We sent the first person done with the last rap to jog and make it back to the last visitor center shuttle to get the car for the rest of the group. The last member of the group finished the last rappel just as it was time to pull out headlamps. We had trouble sequencing the first set of rappels with the rope lengths that we brought (100ft,200ft,220ft) because we found R3 was longer than 150ft to rappel all the way to the next anchor station. I think we would have been fine had we brought the 150ft instead of the 100ft and/or had more material to better extend the pull line. Big rope groves are forming later in the canyon, luckily had no issues with any of the pulls. The bridge was out between emerald pools and Zion lodge so we hiked back to the shuttle stop that we started at (the grotto). A very satisfying day of adventuring!

Comment: It has been a while since I ran this canyon, and it's definitely a better run when it's holding less water. Saw a lot of frogs in canyon. The new anchors look great, and the chains are gone. Sticking the rope at either of the last rappels is a risk. For the penultimate rap, last person double-stranded the rappel; many abrasion points all the way down. For the final rap, if you go further out for the pull, it should be okay. On the final rap, a group used a fiddle stick and lost it in the trees; we recovered it.

Comment: Behunin is great. Big raps, big views. We replaced webbing on a few anchors in canyon. A toggle was useful for second to last rappel for a clean pull.

Comment: Really cool canyon with lots of big drops, long hallways, and big views! The approach up Angel's Landing Trail was ice free but half way up West Rim Trail there was lots of unavoidable ice and snow so microspikes were really nice to have. Once in the canyon they were not needed. The fall colors were still in effect making for a super pretty approach! There was some of water here and there in the canyon and on the approach but all easily avoidable with some finesse. R6 drops you into a large swimming pool but there is an obvious trail cut in to bypass this rap. R7 is the 2 stage off bolts DCR past a pothole into a pool but there is an alternate rappel DCL off a tree that puts you to an edge where you can climb around! We almost stuck our rope on R8, be careful here!! Only one of our team got his feet wet attempting to follow our bridging over a pool in the long hallway. (he's a bit shorter than we were) He said the water wasn't too cold. The final 2 raps are super pretty and lots of fun! We loved this canyon, definitely a fun day!

Comment: SUMMARY: Group of 4. 11 hours 15 mins shuttle stop to shuttle stop. Clear sky and clear forecast. Temperature high in the low 70's. No wetsuits needed. WATER: There is not a lot of water in the canyon and all of it is avoidable, expect for the pothole rappel and that can be done getting only your feet wet if skilled enough--otherwise you could get wet possibly up to your neck. What water is in the canyon is nasty. Most of it I would describe as brown and fuzzy. The rappel into the black water pool can be avoided by a hikers social trail down-canyon right. A group last week said "water through out the canyon." Not sure exactly what they meant but it seems that it has dried up quickly from a week ago. The long hallway shows signs of having recently held water but is little more than damp earth now. ANCHORS: There are a mix of natural and bolted anchors. All anchors are in good shape, with webbing that looks fairly recently placed. That being said, I did notice some slight deflection on one of the bolts for the pothole rappel anchor. The bolt down-canyon right ( i.e. the left bolt if facing them) has some slight movement when loaded. It’s a bit of a nit-pick observation howerver. MISC: The second to last rappel has broken up features and jagged rocks. This combined with increasing rope grooves makes it a place that ropes can get stuck. A recent report indicated a group almost got their rope stuck here. With this in mind we experimented with a fiddle stick off this anchor--which is a 2-bolt anchor with webbing. We were successful with this approach; but, if anyone one does this in the future be mindful of a tree growing out of the rock that the fiddle stick could fly out and catch on. Additionally, it might also be possible to have the fiddle stick or ropes catch on some of the snags, rocks, or groves once the fiddle stick is pulled. YMMV.

Comment: With Angels Landing being permitted, we were greeted by a ranger asking to see our canyoneering permit at the Grotto TH. The hike up was less crowded than pre-permit years. No too much to report in the canyon. Everything was in good condition. The pothole was deep (as to be expected) and COLD. We sent one person down and set up a guided rappel. We found some poison ivy on the wall you rappel down for the last rap. All in all its still a fun zion canyon.

Comment: There were 2 groups ahead of us in the canyon, which slowed us down a bit, but we still made it out before sunset and just in time to catch the next to the last shuttle. Water was all avoidable except for rap 7, where 1st one down gets a little wet above the knees but below the waist. Actually felt good. We set up a tagline for the rest of the crew to avoid the water. Saw another rap station that might have kept us (mostly) out of the water after we rapped down, but oh well. A bit of a schlep in, but a beautiful canyon. Well worth it. The fall colors were spectacular.

Comment: It was really hot in the full Sun, part of the hike up and on the series of rappels down the slab. We took huge amounts of water and took it slow in the full Sun; that paid off in the long run. Most of the canyon was shady which helped greatly with the heat. We avoided the 2 scummy wet pool locations by using alternate rappel stations and rappelling off the plumb line (class A), otherwise it would be deep pools (class B). We also had a rope stick on the 2nd to last rappel, but bounced on the rope a few times and popped out. Overall, a really good trip into a beautiful canyon!

Comment: Conditions were perfect. High of 70F. Fall colors were amazing. With good stemming and a tricky disconnect one can stay completely dry. We were a bit unsure where to go at the "drop in" on the kml as we were looking for a technical drop in. Clarifying in beta. Also, the first 3 rappels are way up out of the watercourse which also made them a bit more difficult to spot. The magnitude of the canyon at those first rappels also make it a little more difficult to judge the distance between anchors. I've read frequently that the last rappel sequence is 2 stages, the last stage being the 170' drop. The first stage was however broken into 2 by webbing thru a pinch point. After examine the area it seems wise to use this extra anchor because I could imaging some serious pull problems occurring if your rope fell in an unlucky spot.

Comment: Gorgeous day with great fall leaves. Was able to avoid all water, though that required a small bit of stemming, otherwise it's knee deep in a couple places.
