Comments: What a special and spectacular place. All anchors are in good condition.

It bears repeating: PLEASE DO NOT ADD WEBBING TO WEBBINGLESS ANCHORS! Large floods rip through Big Creek during the winter and spring. Massive old growth logs have appeared and disappeared again. As a community, let's work together to minimize our impact on the canyons we love.

Comment: Great time in Big with some gentle flow conditions. Delinked the bolts on R4. A couple of the hangers spun but doesn't seem critical at the moment.

The speed trail could use some TCL, tread was fairly good lower down with vegetation taking over some parts of the upper section. Then theirs about single day worth of log out (generally under 12" in diameter).

Comment: WOW! We came in from out of town, new to PNW Class C, and did a progression meant to build in both challenge and payoff. It went Duncan (just me and a couple first-time canyoneers), then my experienced friends came and we did Davis, Hager, Eagle, Big. This order was perfect, and Big was a spectacular finale to an outstanding week. As with everything else up here, beta was dead on, and anchors in great shape. We were prepared gear and skills wise for everything, but it was still a nerve check to commit to the dark, cold core of this canyon. Going through it was AWESOME!

Comment: Great day in Big - flows were super relaxed and easy, could have used a little more water ;-) But it made for a quick visit.

Comment: Big never disappoints. Great day in the creek. We were surprised to see a large audience of hikers at the bottom of cave falls.

Comment: Awesome as always. Watch for a sharp edge on R1: padding the edge and/or rope-creeping strongly recommended from the DCL anchor. Couple of bolts could use tightening. Spent a bunch of time playing in the Rain Room.

Comment: Beautiful relaxed run, took our time and still just 3:10 in creek time. Picked up some trash along the exit - seeing signs of more people hiking down to cave falls. Second time in two weeks there's been people camping in the old parking lot when I've run Big as well, boulders have been rolled out of the way and it appears to be getting a lot of use lately.

Comment: See attached pic of R1. In my opinion, when you don't have water flowing in the small channel where the arrow is, flow is moderate. The run of Big was awesome like it always is! Some of the logs have moved around from years past but no special challenges to report.

R2 rain room is super fun at this flow! R6 was clear and jumped by some. We replaced the webbing for those who are not as excited about jumps.

Comment: Fun day out! Water levels are dropping since the 6/29 report. R3 webbing shows a bit of rubbing/wear. Took a lunch break after R4.

Comment: Opening day for Big and fun as always. Flow was high, but coming down quickly. Anchors were mostly good other than a missing link on R3 and a missing hanger on one of the bolts at Cave. Added a new bolt. If another group is feeling like doing some work, the hole wasn't deep enough to drive the bolt all the way in and it could use a trim.

Comment: Great day in Big at the end of the season. All anchors are in good shape. We stuck a rope on R5 and left about 30 ft hanging from the anchor. If anyone else gets down there before winter please remove it!

Comment: Removed DCR webbing anchor R1. Brought a wrench and tightened the bolts on R5 in prep for the off-season. R6 jump still goes. Removed webbing linking bolts R7, this should be added for your team with Alpine Canyon draw or equivalent and then removed.

Comment: Flows were fun but manageable. All anchors were good. Our first time in this canyon so we took our time, 4 hours for the technical portion of the canyon. A lot of time in the water... one team member only had a three mil wetsuit and got cold. We did some exploring and swimming on the way out, hence the long overall time. 5 star experiences, other than the hike back up the hill!

Comment: Fantastic September trip through Big.Flows were just right, weather was great. We took our time and just had a relaxing day sitting at various rappels taking in the beauty.

Hangers on R5 are still loose, but everything else seemed to be pretty good. Minimal bees were encountered.
