Comments: Broke the big drop into two stages. It’s probably easiest to bring a 250’ rope and do it in one shot single-stranded.

Rigged all rappels except for the last using retrievable anchors and cleaned up webbing left from previous descents. Don’t expect to find fixed anchors.

The last waterfall is one of the best in the Buffalo River area.

Comment: notably, this was a particularly dry week (buffalo river levels are reportedly low for the season & fire danger is up). avoidable trickles of water on all rappels; the pool at the base of the last rappel DCR wasn't big enough to reach the base of our rap line. tat for the last rappel was on a hollow, broken tree that shuddered when shaken, so we removed the tat, and moved the rap rings to new cordolette on a live tree four feet to rappeller's left. the cord is earth tone green and blends in but it's fresh so look around

Comment: Awesome return to Cecil Hollow. Because of the river level, we had to do a long approach involving the Buffalo River Trail, descending a small gully with some bypassable rappels, and a river crossing with a handline before the uphill climb. Loved some of the slippery water park features and great down climbing. Confirmed that when the water is up, there is a very large pool at the bottom of the large final rappel and you need 350-400 ft of material in order to get a successful pull.

Comment: We LOVED this canyon actually, it's open with beautiful views and fun rappels, and quick enough to give you plenty of time left in your day.

For the approach, take the first left after your cross the river sloping uphill gently and follow the red trail markers until you start seeing a defined trail going straight up the ridge. Turn left on Bench trail and you'll hit the creek. After about 30 min. of downclimbing, you'll reach R1 - we set an anchor DCL and went went over the boulder which was a great line, used 80 ft of rope. R2 was built DCL, about 50 ft.

The we reached the huge final rappel - how amazing! Anchor is huge tree DCL. We used about 190 feet of rope for the rappel side and did it all in one go. Marked special difficulties because with only a 200 ft rope we ended up having to set the rope length a little short, then tie a 100 ft pull cord and all our webbing and slings to get a long enough pull side. But if you follow the beta and bring a long enough rope or do it in 2 rappels you'll be good to go.
