Comments: Flows are very friendly at the moment but are dropping quickly. All anchors and jumps are in great shape. Added an anchor in the woodpile DCL on R5. This lets you rap directly in the flow. The edges are sharp so creep and watch for cracks in the rock when pulling.

Comment: There was a bit of cussing in Cussed Hollow. This one was a higher pay to play than out team anticipated. The hike in is a solid work out and no joke especially carrying wet gear from the previous day's canyoning. It took us 2.5 hours to hike in and the gpx bushwack track is tough to follow as a ground contours much more than indicated on a standard topo with forty foot contour interval. You will work for this canyon.
Once we finally reached the creek ate lunch and drank water. We suited up and began the decent. The bolts were challenging to find as the original beta didn't give any clues. For all of the two tier rappels with possible jumps we rigged and ran full length two tiered rappels. My 150' rope was plenty for all rappels and pulls form solid ground. The creek walk after J4 isn't too bad, although there is some scrambling over boulders and log jams and some downclimbs. Then there is the R4 rappel with the hard to find bolt that took us forever to find (I updated the beta so it's more useful and less time is wasted). Then there is another long creek walk of scrambles downclimbs and logjams until you finally reach R5. Our group was tired and wanted to be finished with canyon so we rappelled off the tree DCR to speed things up a bit. After R5 is another long and challenging creek walk with lots of scrambling and route selection. I kept trying to check my position on my nav app but couldn't get a fix. It seemed we had been walking for a lot longer than "a 0.25 mile pleasant creek walk". Finally, we stumbled upon R6, rappelled and continued on down the creek until finally stumbling to the bridge. We stumbled like zombies up then down the trail back to the car verry glad to be finished with this canyon. We all decided the technical part of the canyons was fun but way too high of a price to hike in and out and the long creek walks made this canyon much less desirable to our group. | |||||||

Comment: Been a few years, but getting back to Cussed. Long approach and long-ish stretches of creek-walking, but a terrific canyon ne'er-the-less. Bit more fallen trees and log jams in the creek than I remember. All jumps are in. Added a better low water anchor for R6 which goes right down through the veil into the Monsoon Room. Much pool lounging with fun team.

Comment: The approach is tough but the creek is super pretty and fun! A lot of new trees down and logs to climb over. Very much worth running!

Comment: Place was special even in low flow. Def not a hard canyon with current water levels. The approach is taxing on the legs, and can take some time to get to the drop in point. All anchor points were solid and well placed. I documented the canyon and posted a vid for anyone thinking about trying this sucker out!

Comment: Low water makes this canyon pretty boring. There was one extremely high quality spot that we jumped into the big pool and could repeatedly jump from the other side. It was very high pay to play ratio and will never repeat.

Comment: Near flood stage descent. Water rose during the trip which means snow played a factor. Have ran this canyon in May multiple times before and have beaver seen this amount of water. Just getting to anchors and basic downclimbs were a chore. The constant thinking and avoidance of major obstructions caused fatigue. We made choices with felt safe and a couple of times that was problematic. Having packs on or rope bags while in white water is an issue. Also, thinking that you can freely swim without issue is as well. We ascended out DCR between r4 and r5. It was a rowdy day and we are glad that everyone made it out safely. An accident report has been filed.

Comment: Great run through Cussed on a hot day. No new hazards. Some pool depths were lower. Did R3 as a jump and a slide. Took our time to beat the heat and stay in the water. Water was on the low side but still had plenty of flow to make it fun. Slides are still in. High pay to play on the approach, amazing canyon.

Comment: I mean, Cussed really isn’t that bad on the pay to play situation. We used the Bluff trail and hopped off around 2,200. This is the best way to get to the drop in. In the early season, the views from the west side of the bank help the best with scouting. All previous bolts are in good shape. It is key during the early season to avoid the R3 chasm and instead climb up DCR to rap off of a vinemaple cluster as it gets you through the woody sieve. We sent one person up to manage the station and the rest used ascenders to get up high enough to rap around the obstruction. The rest of the creek was par the course. Great day with the biggest flows we’ve ran it in.

Comment: Quite a long thrash in, but not too bad. Crossed the tributary via the secret elk trail and dropped in via the west side. Single bolts should be upgraded to full rappel stations.

Comment: Good little canyon. Wish the approach was easier. Buswhack isn't terrible until crossing the final gully- friends supposedly found a game trail up higher than the track. Still a bit of a sweat on the climb- recommend starting early.

Comment: Classic canyon in the Lewis River area. Bit of a hoof in, but some great narrows.
