  • " Just a quick update: descended Cypress Creek yesterday, and flow was very high. Highest I've ever descended it in. We elected not to do the final rap, though some of us were willing and considered it - many were not, and the day was getting long... This water level is pushing the limits for many if..." Comment: Amazing water conditions for an advanced crew in Cypress. Rappels were quite sporty from the recent rains. Another group mentioned high conditions in the morning, it is likely the catchment drained during the day.

Comment: After a day of rain, water levels in Cypress were significantly higher. A couple members of our team had run it perhaps four days earlier and noted that the water levels had jumped by something like x5. Certainly higher than the reference photo listed as "moderate-high." R1 was high enough to merit a guided rappel. R4 took careful consideration and scouting to rappel it safely. A terrific, fun day with a great team on the right side of challenging. Beautiful canyon.

Comment: Beautiful canyon encased in high walls carpeted with thick green moss and hanging ferns. The first and last rappels are the highlights and are rigged to give the rappeller a heavy shower. There are also a 10 foot jump and 5 foot slide after the last rap. This canyon offers some of the finest creek walking with grippy rock and dry beds on one side or the other to make easy progress down the watercourse and dappled sunlight reflecting off the walls for stunning views along the way.

Comment: Great flow, anchors were all in good shape. There are a crazy amount of unnecessary bolts by R2/R3.

Comment: For a group relatively new to aquatic canyons, these conditions were ideal. Super fun, not at all intimidating. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were in no rush, so we spent a lot of time playing in pools and teaching one member of our party how to rig, which probably doubled the car-to-car time.

    • " Some more updating... Strolled past Cypress today, looks just lovely. Water is at a nice moderate level - over the weekend, should present no dire difficulties to newer folks. Drove by Deeks, and it looks pretty moderate - but that's just on a drive-by. Britannia - well, it is still waning. Right now, I *would* drop into it, but I would anchor the first (dam) rappel off of boulders on the far side of the creek, rapping down the face of the dam, outside of the main flow. I would plan to stay..." Vancouver Canyoning

    • " Went to cypress canyon today, but pulled the plug before dropping in... Haven't done this route before so can't say for sure what the level is compared to normal, but it seemed burly as fuck. Note that the level is almost covering the bolts at the first rap." Vancouver Canyoning

    • " An update on some conditions in the area, a couple firsthand, a couple via an out of town group here for the last few days... Cypress is awesome as of today. Totally reasonable - exactly at the moderate level. Box Creek, as of yesterday - perfectly moderate. Not too high, and not boring!. Goldie and Mosquito Creeks are apparently at reasonable levels as of a couple of days ago. Freshly anchored, as well. Driving by today, Deeks still looks pretty high. Will peek at Britannia this evening, hopefully." Vancouver Canyoning

    • " Cypress Creek- ran it yesterday with Corby Petersen and Ben. Flows were still fairly heavy ( and before todays rain) but not too crazy- but was runnable if comfortable in stronger flow. pics below. the last rappel is awesome now without the huge logs that used to be there, but prepare to get..." Comment: We were so pumped up after doing Britannia with 12 people in 4h that we decided to go do Cypress... w/o wetsuits! This is an easy but beautiful canyon right in the city of Vancouver. All drops had been recently bolted. Flow was on the low side but still fun. But not wearing wetsuits was a mistake...
