Comments: Did ‘Upper Left Fork’ in addition to Das Boot, and Subway due to a routefinding error. Time is reflective of that. While Upper Left Fork is nice canyon with beautiful narrows and interesting rappels, doing ‘Das Boot Full’ did make the day considerably longer. Water levels in Das Boot and Subway were low. Anchors in upper left fork were old half inch webbing, anchor building materials should be brought on return trips. To be clear, most of the beta for Das Boot does not include Upper Left Fork, and adding it to a Das Boot/Subway trip should include extra considerations. It is an interesting canyon in its own right, like a darker version of Das Boot without the log jams. For a prepared and conditioned team, it is worth exploring alongside Das Boot, as the permit includes both.

Comment: Did standard Das Boot and the Subway, so time reflect both.
Das Boot is a fantastic section of slot, among the most underrated routes in Zion (along with Right Fork). It's easy, but crazy scenic, with many deep pools. We wore 6/5mm wetsuits and were shivering for over an hour. Come prepared for absurdly cold water, and 90% shade in the slot! There are a couple log jams to climb up and over, easily passable. Great canyon, if you are doing the subway, don't miss this one! | |||||||

Comment: I added Das Boot to The Subway As a solo trip. I agree with some others that the traverse to the drop in is the most difficult part of the canyon, though still not that difficult with GPS.
The rains of August 26 filled the canyon back up based on the low water report from August 1. There was very little debris in the canyon and the water temperature was ideal for a 90 degree day. I only did the bottom section of Das Boot, and the longest rappel is 25 feet.

Comment: Quicky run of this short and beautiful slot!
We did only Das Boot approach/exit from Wildcat. Which is a total scorcher in the summer, even more so in the afternoon, the steady uphill grades definitely wear on you going this way… Canyon water is super low, wore 4/3 suits and were plenty warm, could have just done 3mm neoprene pants honestly, one brief swim. Biggest rappel (with webbing extended as it is currently for the last drop) is 25ft. Only 2 or 3 rappels as i remember. We brought a pair of 50’ ropes. Approach took us 2hrs at a moderate pace Canyon 1.5hrs at a leisurely pace Exit 2.5hrs at a brisk pace

Comment: Das Boot has some very pretty narrows but it is very short for effort required to get there. Only 1 or 2 short rappels, less than 50’. Much of it is downclimbable. Water not terribly cold, definitely not as cold as Heaps. I wore a drysuit with the same layers as I did for Heaps 2 days prior and was too warm. 5/4 wetsuit should be sufficient. We continued down Subway, was able to climb around 1st Subway boulder drop DCL through small “cave”. Fixed a rope on the last 2 raps, went down to visit the Subway room then ascended our ropes and exited via “subway approach” then back the way we came up to Wildcat TH.

Comment: Run run through Das Boot, definitely make the subway worth it. We ran with a group of 5 and although the pools were cold, wetsuits will only be required if you run cold.

Comment: Beautiful canyon. Lots of down climbs. We had to add webbing at rappels. Difficult for a grown man to squeeze through through "the woumb." Spent a lot of time on the approach. Time includes Subway. 4/3 wetsuit people were fine, 3mm wetsuiters w/ wool socks were cold but made it through ok.

Comment: Time includes Subway. One swim, a couple shorter chest-deep wades and one long chest-deep wade. With a 2mm shorty and rain gear I did fine. Slightly chilly before the end but not bad, and I run cold. The water may have been warmed up by some monsoon rain, though the canyon did not appear to have flooded recently and water levels were low for this canyon. One member did a single rappel, the others did two (and a couple handlines). Approach trail was pretty easy to follow. A gorgeous canyon and very different character from Subway so they pair excellently.

Comment: Wonderful trip starting at 9AM and finishing at 9PM. Started further up to do the 'Extended' Das Boot and continued through the Subway. Make sure to bring plenty of water if you plan on doing the extension; we couldn't find any natural springs to filter water until the Subway and the heat on the hike in was very exposed (105F). Saw one group of hikers on the way in, otherwise we had the whole place to ourselves. All anchors looked good and opted to stem a few drops rather than rap them.
Extended Das Boot: Interesting and pretty to check out if you've done Das Boot before, but definitely a "one and done" kind of experience. The grand parts that made Das Boot memorable were found in the normal section. Das Boot: Beautiful! Definitely cold in areas but was able to get through it comfortably in a 5.5mm suit. Probably would've opted for a 3-4mm suit since it's relatively short and the extra thickness just added to the hiking weight through Subway, which didn't require a wet suit.

Comment: Absolutely beautiful canyon. We had 5-7mm wetsuits. Water was GORGEOUS and I personally was toasty in a 7mm. We jumped a few raps into deep pools. Some waterfalls. An absolute Zion classic. Avoid the quick sand.
