Comments: Time reflects combo with the Hunted. Great little jaunt, fun and water didn't reach more than my ankles. Beautiful canyon, though not much moss to complement the rain earlier in the day. Rope grooves are bad, retrievable anchor systems would help. Bolts look good.

Comment: My team has been running this Canyon the past 4 years and uses it as a season opener to dust the cob webs off and get everyone in the rescue mindset. 3 years ago state parks closed the gate on the drive-in causing a 5 mile hike from the gate to the Sheep Canyon campsite, additionally since the road isn't being used it is extremely soft and sandy. With the additional hike My team decided to launch from the gate at 1 am and made it to the summit next to the rock out cropping just before the start of sunrise. We each packed 2L of water and all were out of water just upon reaching the summit. From there we enjoyed the beautiful sunrise and ate some food before dropping in for the first Rap. Water level was low in the canyon but that was expected with the time of year we went, still plenty of water to get wet and filter water. overgrowth and debris in the canyon were normal. Team was able to ghost everything except for one rappel where we used the tandem pitons left behind. Logged 18 Rappels with a handful of down climbs. Once we got the EYE the hike back to the trail head was easy but the trail out is mostly gone with the lack of people visiting the area. Once we got back to sheep Canyon campground We changed into new boots and clothes and started the 5mile hike out to the truck. We ended the day just before 2pm. We had no issue running the canyon with 2 8mm 75' ropes, with a 150' stored in a pack for emergency.

Comment: Took a beginner down East Canyon--pretty decent, low-consequence route for introducing someone who was a bit nervous about rappelling. Nothing to write home about if you've been down a few, but it can be done much more quickly than our time reflects if you're looking for a short outing. In retrospect, might've been a questionable move to run this in June, but the heat wasn't too bad once we got into the canyon.
Handline on the second rappel is a sunbleached abomination. Quicklink above seems pretty bomber, so I'd highly suggest just rapping off that instead. Webbing on the third anchor replaced recently. Could be extended further for a clean pull--if I make it back out this summer, I'll take care of both and post an update. Ran into a woman on the approach who said she saw a couple sidewinders in West Slot. We were out there last Sunday and didn't see anything, but it's worth keeping in mind

Comment: Down climbed log jam at R2, rebuilt R3 and R4. Bushwhacking through stream bed sucked. Would have been more fun one or two months ago with more flow and less new growth.

Comment: Fun canyon. Both raps are quite nice. We did our best to avoid trampling the moss and ferns on the way down

Comment: This canyon either flashed a day or two before we ran it or the rain filled in all the pools because wow there were some frequent swimmers as current conditions sit. Lots of fun wading through the deep pools. The temps were a modest high 70s the day we ran it and I think everyone was slightly cold without wetsuits but nothing too unbearable though. Our group of 6 spent 9 hours but that was completing all 14 rappels including the optional ones. I used a fiddlestick on the big 170 ft R5 as the pull from that angle would be terrible. There were a few other raps that I would also recommend ghosting due to hard pulls that can chew up rope and further the already prominent rope grooves in this canyon. This was 2 members first canyon and they absolutely loved the experience. A great and arguably better alternative if you can’t win those highly coveted Subway permits as the canyon walls look very much like Subway right at the first waterfall.

Comment: We took option 2 up to the dry waterfall. I'm not sure I'd do this approach again. I'll try the more exposed option or the long, easier hike. This route required quite a bit of bushwhacking and was quite strenuous.
All anchors were solid and in good shape.

Comment: This canyon is great! The first two rappels are awesome followed by a tremendous R6 through a rabbit hole. We most likely ran this before rainy conditions so although it was dry when we ran it, it may have some small water spots after some recent rains. The last two raps are downclimbable and although the beta says the last rappel is off a tree, in my experience two bolts were there. We definitely fiddled R2 to avoid nasty rope pulls. R1 doesn’t necessarily need a fiddle if you walk up canyonto give yourself a clear path to not pull the block over the rope grooved edge. Be smart about your pulls to try and minimize further rope grooves and prevent your rope from getting chewed up. R6 is pictured below.

Comment: We found this canyon to be enjoyable with very little water, even after heavy rain the day before. The foliage didn't bother us as most are thornless. All anchor webbing was in good shape.

Comment: First descent of SMC and lower falls. 5 hours car to car. We did a sneak approach on the logging road (47.54994, -121.70274) that brings you to SMC falls (47.55396, -121.70104), making for an easy bike then 30 min hike approach. Fresh downfall in canyon otherwise it was a great day in moderate flow. Plenty of anchor options at each rap and likely an escape from canyon at each rap, and an escape at the bridge, so this would be a great canyon for an early season and/or rainy day close to Seattle.

Comment: Absolutely amazing day. The flow is much higher than I’ve seen it. One group member did the canyon a month prior and was astonished at the flow and depth of pools even only a month a part. Anchors all look to be in good shape. We wore shorty wetsuits with 5mm booties and were perfectly comfortable throughout the canyon. Highly recommend the overnight. Did this the first time in 24hours and definitely regretted it. Always one for the books. Enjoy!!

Comment: If I were to have run the closed canyon, here’s what I would think about it. What follows is a work of fiction
Pretty straightforward and short canyon. I hiked down from the top and through the narrows, that part can definitely be skipped in the future due to a particularly frisky homeless population. Did the rappel in one go, ghosting off of the prominent root. Not worth leaving webbing here, it will surely be picked up by the locals. While it is a very pretty canyon, the unique geography of a narrow secluded canyon above a nude beach attracts a particular kind of foot traffic. In the future, I would be sure to take the sneak approach and keep engagement with locals to a minimum

Comment: Super fun super beautiful canyon! Great rappels and very pretty sections of slot! Lots to see on this route!
Approach took us 1.75hr at a leisurely pace. We started around noon and had the canyon to ourselves. The two guided tours were on the last 2 drops by this time. Lots of opportunities to stem over pools throughout. Only 1 mandatory swim and a few wades. Water not cold, comfortable without neoprene, despite the clouds and slight breeze, air still warm. Many of the raps are of high quality, fun down climbs and stemmy moves, very unique and beautiful rock features and deep keeper holes that are avoidable. Really love this canyon for a full featured fun day out! A must do!

Comment: A nice bushwhack before you hit the technica portion. Fun raps with a few I teresting starts. Webbing for rap 1 May need to be replaced soon. There was some knee high water in rap 12. We exited to 89A via more bushwhacking. Very pretty.
