Comments: Celebrating the New Year with a local freezefest! Great team and much fun out there, tho' sadly Duncan was not in full-on swiftwater mode. That said, the recent atmospheric river event completely blew out the big logjam below R8. All the logs blowing out revealed two new drops (both easy downclimbs) and some gorgeous bedrock. Clear signs of scouring along the canyon walls from the big release when the dam blew. Wowza.

Comment: Ran the full creek today and it's in great shape! The section between the old log jam and the creek crossing is beautiful with nice bed rock and one nuisance rappel/careful downclimb.

We put second bolts in for R2 and R3 to make the anchors redundant.

Comment: Training day in Duncan, so we ran R1-R6. Water was fun but not intimidating. The changes from the atmospheric rivers this winter are impressive! The small log jam DCR at R7 is gone. The BIG log jam is also cleared so you can now run all the way to the crossing. It's going to be fun to be able to run the whole creek without sketchy log jam scrambling!

Comment: Went to check out Duncan for a high flow run. Water was over the banks at the bridge so we walked in to look at the lower section. Very high water so we bailed and went to run Munra. Duncan will be raging after the rain coming this week!

Comment: The water came up a little today after the rain but is still low. Careful on any jumps due to the low water. There's a bunch of new debris/floating logs below R7. Not clear where it came from but it doesn't pose a hazard right now.

Comment: The past 24 hours of rain have raised water levels a little bit, and the level actually rose a little while we were in creek. Cold day in the rain, but we were already wet anyway! Hopefully the rain keeps the flow a little higher for a few days.

Comment: Flow check, the water was very high and loud with only a few boulders above the water. We hiked in and met another very experienced team on their way out. They said the water is too powerful and there are too many log strainers to run it. We agreed, so we only hiked it and took some pictures. The log jam area was totally flooded with full river flow around both sides of the logjam. With all the rain recently, Duncan is raging!

Comment: Duncan becomes a different animal in high flow. Strong current and swiftwater features appear. Adequate thermal protection essential. Good fun for an experienced team.

Comment: High water conditions and very cold per recent snow. Installed new high water bolt at R2 to eliminate need to use the awkward tree anchor. Crux was the upper pool at R8, a swirling horizontal recirculation that took some effort to escape. Once one person was out, it was easy to assist the rest of the team. (Pool can also be bypassed by rappelling out of the water.) Exited above the big log jam. Duncan is super fun at this level, although teams should be experienced and have plenty of thermal protection.

Comment: Took two sibs on their first-ever canyon here, and it was perfect! Intense enough to push them without terrifying, and the place is just beautiful.
