Comment: Two rappels (following a simple downclimb/slide to enter the canyon where one of our group was helped by a hand line) in good condition.

The first anchor (big log chockstone) had well-tied cordage wrapped around it that has definitely seen a thing or two. We felt comfortable using it given it's tied in a way that's well redundant, but the core is starting to show and you may consider backing this up. The tree squeaks as you go, but ain't going anywhere *knock knock*

The second anchor was a choice between a deadman (we found one already constructed and recently trampled that passed an energetic pull test) and a chockstone closer to the actual rap that moves when you step on it. We went with the deadman, which can be made even "stronger" through the careful use of friction, as it's up a slope and around a corner. This can make the rope difficult to pull, but only used ~25m of doubled rope to rig from the deadman to the ground.

As mentioned, don't pull your rope before evaluating that second anchor. But, if you happen to anyway, or if that second anchor gives up after inspection, one party member lowered via a frictionful meat backup can easily walk from the exit back to the entrance and reset the rope to be ascended from the first rappel in 15-30 minutes.

Comment: This is a really scenic canyon with towering, sculpted walls throughout. Reminded us of some Zion NP canyons and side canyons found in Glen canyon with the soaring walls and outstanding lighting. It is short and sweet, the shortness is made up for by the nice approach, the beauty within, the river view, the pertros and the fun exit up climb.

We did not drive down the last little bit of really sandy road, even though we had 4X4 vehicles. It really is just a ten minute addition to walk that short section of road. The first down climb, which is the entrance into the canyon was done with a meat anchor and partner assist for the last man down. On the first rappel station, we replaced one of the webbing strands of the dual, equalized webbing setup that is wrapped around one of the logs wedged in the twisted turn of the upper canyon. The second rappel was anchored off of another dual webbing setup secured to well placed rock deadmen. The beta indicated that this might be a problem anchor, but it was solid for us. I did bring my sandtrap just in case and it actually is a very good place for a sandtrap, the geometry of the canyon would work well for the sandtrap. It is very possible that the deadman anchors could get easily washed out in the next big rainstorm so canyoneers beware and plan accordingly! All in all, this is a great half day canyon. I would do it again.

Comment: Fancy canyoneering on Thanksgiving! We dressed in suits/ties/dresses and took a morning stroll through this canyon. No water, great rappels. We used a sand trap anchor for fun but there was also a natural anchor available. After getting out of the short slot, we walked down to see the icy paria river and petroglyphs after the canyon. The exit hike up was pretty short before you start retracing the 30min entrance hike. Really high bang for your buck on this one!
