Comments: Waist depth pools. Water was not too cold and we were comfortable without wetsuits. R1 hanger is loose but bolt felt secure. Completed two rappels and downclimbed the remaining obstacles. Very scenic. 3h approach, 3h descent, and 3h exit. Lounged by the Virgin River and warm spring for about an hour and filtered water prior to departing. Following the KML was straightforward, no issues with route-finding on approach or exit.

Comment: A somewhat decent slot canyon with a stunning but very short section of goodness at the end. Access to the incredible Parunuweap on exit makes this a really great route!

Approach is quite a slough, up and down, (albeit lots to look at!). It took us 2.5hrs at a moderate pace to get to the canyon head as ropewiki shows.

Much of the upper slots of East Fork isnt very interesting and had I known, Id have dropped in much further down the fork. I havent done West yet, so I couldnt say how they compare…

East Fork features multiple short sections of semi-interesting, non technical, shallow slot with some nuisance downclimbs and light sculpting. Near the confluence with West, there are 2 short rappels. Multiple pools ankle to waist deep with 1 or 2 closer to chest deep.

Past the East/West confluence, the main slot of Fat Man’s is pretty stunning! Deep and intensely sculpted chambers, some fairly low lit and adorned with large natural arches! A few more pools in this section, with some finesse, we were able to avoid getting more than waist deep. The “warm spring” was a neat feature. No rappels in this section.

Descent took us 3.5hrs at a leisurely pace

The canyon spits you out into Parunuweap which is also quite stunning! We spent 2hrs in here and hiked down to Labyrinth Falls.

Exit starts with a short steep scramble up the cliffs and back to the rolling hills of sand and slick rock. Exit took us 2hrs at a brisk pace.

No wetsuits needed, 4mm booties were nice though!

Comment: What a beautiful canyon. It’s like the if narrows and antelope canyon had a beautiful baby!

we brought wetsuits but didn’t use them. the water was waist deep in one pool. neoprene socks were enough for us. You’ll be warm enough so on the exit hike. approach 2hs / descent 2hrs / exit 2hrs 15 mins. We move pretty fast though. All anchors where good.
