Comments: We left my 300' rope fixed at the big drop, ran the canyon with a 60' rope which we used at one rappel. There was a tiny bit of water in 2 pools, but easy enough to stem over and keep feet totally dry. We used a more direct exit which goes right up between Egypt 2 and Egypt 1.5 which has a short bit of steep slab, and no car shuttle.

Comment: Had a lot of fun playing in the mud. There's no standing water in the canyon, just mud.

Comment: 1 hour (descent time only)

Currently the whole Egypt area is dry. Meaning, there isn't any snow, ice, or mud on the plateau, in the canyon, or the exit. We didn't even find any damp earth. With clear sunny sky and temps in the low 40s during the day we did need jackets at times but as we started moving through the canyon layers were quickly shed.

We descended E2 and did and up climb of E3 as our exit. This report will focus on the descent of E2.

We anchored off a truck hitch and did the big 300 foot-ish drop into E2. Slight wind on this drop which some of us didn't notice as they were too focused on managing their fear/excitement on a big drop with a skinny rope. We all had proper descenders and there were not friction or control related issues on this rap.

The canyon is bone dry. No ice, water, or mud.

The mid canyon rappel is a chokestone/pinch anchor. There is a green sling around the pinch point that didn't seem ideal. Someone else felt the same and had added some extra webbing that was extremely loose and not well tied. We rebuilt the anchor keeping the green sling but cinching up the second piece of webbing around the chokestone so it won't slide to unfavorable spots. We also equalized the this and the green sling on one quicklink. All this being said we did see some movement of the anchor when one of us rappelled off it. Good news, though, this spot can be downclimbed. However, it is a little exposed right under the chokestone.

We exited up Egypt 3 but we can say with a very high degree of certainty that currently the standard E2 exit is free of ice, snow, mud. We traversed part of it when exiting E1.5 later on in the day.

Comment: Love this entrance rappel! Truely an escalante classic! There was one very muddy section where I got my shoe stuck, but otherwise the water/mud was avoidable. Another group was also descending behind us, which we realized when we went to go retrieve our 300ft rope. We hope you enjoyed our rope coil for you :P

After completing Egypt 2, half the group exited and half the group completed Egypt 3. The group completing the loop with Egypt 3 took about 3 more hours than the group the exited.

Comment: Used one of the lower anchors to skip the big rap... too bad we didn't bring the long rope. We had an exciting trip while it was sprinkling...
