Comments: Approach was a bit brushy once you leave the main wash. I kept left in the beginning which was fine, but then turned right up a side drainage just a bit too early. A small portion of the KML is interpolatedu as a result. Downclimbed R1. R2 is 25’ immediately after the optional first rap (added R2 to the beta) and drops into a neat horseshoe feature. The left bolt on R3 is loose and may need to be removed or possibly replaced. For R4, it may be desirable to extend this webbing to prevent the quicklink from pinching your rope between the link and the rock. A prickly pear is also taking a beating from this anchor setup. Lots of downed trees between the base of R4 and the main wash of this side canyon. Once the brush clears up, to an extent, the exit back to Taylor Tank goes quick. Saw a rattlesnake just before the tank (it warned me of its presence) so keep an eye out.

Comment: We went out for a day of wandering around in Hartwell canyon and stumbled upon this route by finding some left over webbing which was in decent shape. We approached from the south, hiking along the rock bands above Palatki before contouring to the north side of the drainage and descending Fatty. A smart group would bring a long enough rope to make the raps easy... we weren't intending to descend on rope but did have 25' of Powercord and some webbing for harnesses and used that successfully to descend the bulk of the route, downclimbing the sides where we didn't have long enough rope to rap. Beautiful scenery in an amazing side drainage of Hartwell.

Comment: I replaced the webbing on R2, R3 was in good shape, R4 will need to be replaced the next time this canyon is run. It will need 20’ of webbing. MAKE SURE your GPX downloads fully before driving back here. The route is easy to find with the GOX but would likely be impossible without it. The turn off for the approach is about .7 mi from the TH and easy to miss. This canyon is definitely under-rated. Fun and easy approach and exit, beautiful views, easy raps. Super beginner friendly & good variety.

Comment: Truck kind of required to TH, but a slowly driven small car would make it. Bushwhacky on the approach after leaving trail and entering poorly traveled wash. I followed kml and there were three sections of short, but near vertical rock climbing. We used the first rap to train ascending and rescue scenarios. Pretty canyon with some nice features. 2 raps have cracks to contend with, be mindful when retrieving ropes. Exit is not too bad, though expect to be scratch/snagged.

Comment: we stumbled upon this route on accident while exploring this area. route time expected to be on par with the 3.5 hour estimate as we explored alcoves for 1.5 hours before making our way toward the approach ridge for the route.

route is OK and has more potential.

the dense brush makes this a less enjoyable route in comparison to others in the area.

r1 and 2 can be downclimbed but the downclimbs to r3 were really fun through the steamy section.

rapp lengths seemed a bit shorter than 85 ft.

still fun and worth checking out.

    anchors looked good.

would reccomend trying contigo for a similar quality route with less of a brush battle.

contigo 3 stars. fatty 2.5 stars.
