Comments: Great day to have swift water training! Thanks to Sam and the crew! The only thing I have to report is the water is really really cold even on a 95 deg day!

Comment: Super warm day today. Water felt surprisingly warm. Next team should bring 3 nuts and hangers. We did monbox so the anchors below the keyhole are still unchecked.

Comment: R1’s primary anchor was missing a quicklink, weird. Broke up the pitch by ghosting the primary anchor, and using it to access an intermediate anchor (tree) on the cliff face DCL.

Comment: No other anchors were found, so possible first descent. Dropped in upstream of the narrows to catch several rappels. R2 is excellent, dropping into a neat grotto. Would be fun to find a line to run the flow. The remainder are mostly boulder problems, requiring the odd nuisance rappel to get down. Suddenly, Chikamin narrows up with walls rising vertically 60-80ft on both sides. Gorgeous narrows and very photogenic, but not very technical. Needs more jumps and swimming! Easy thrash back up to the road.

Comment: I did not do canyoneering here. I am only hiking up to the Luge flag. When I come back, I checked the cleveland NF closure, and I noticed that this area is no longer closed to public. So I wonder if someone can go down it to verify the condition here. The Cleveland NF closure map is here, and I hope someone in ropewiki can mark it 'open'. https://www.fs.usda.gov/sites/nfs/files/r05/cleveland/publication/alerts/Airport%20Fire%20Closure%20Area%20Map-%20FOREST%20ORDER%20NO.%2002-25-04.pdf

Comment: All anchors were good. We wore 3 to 4 mm wetsuits and everyone was happy. Didn't run into creatures other than spiders. First time in WCC, did Bear and Sundance day before, but Wilbur ended up being our favorite. The lukewarm swim in the exit was awesome (with wetsuit)! Finished surprisingly well under 5 hours even with lots of silly videos and pictures.

Comment: Did the canyon as a group of 3, took 4 hours car to car. All anchors are in good condition and in the locations described on ropewiki.

Comment: First time in MF and it was a lot of fun. We took the ridge route and it is as scrambly and steep as they say. Be sure to give your teammates space as we were kicking rocks loose in certain sections. The canyon was great and in moderate low to low flow. It was nice and refreshing and the slick waterfalls were a appreciated challenge. Benefit of being in a large experienced group was that we had lots of rope and the ability to leap frog down the canyon. Anchors and webbing were in good shape.

Comment: No anchors were found, so possible first descent. Ascended steeps slopes west of the creek to reach a flat-ish area around 2900ft, then dropped into the creek. Nice-looking 45ft falls just above... next time we'll drop in a little higher up. Relatively low flow, although things still can get interesting when it's concentrated all in one area. R2 is the big pitch and is excellent: running right down a V-shaped groove. You have to drop into one pocket and push yourself through a veil of falling water to get out. The entire falls gradually turns DCR. Below, the canyon tightens up significantly with numerous back-to-back obstacles. Very reminiscent of nearby Clark Creek.

Comment: Very brushy approach, but relatively short. All webbing had seemingly been removed in the prior week by someone that came before us. There were a few groups that ran it the prior week, several that reported anchors in good shape, so I'm not sure who decided to remove it all. Nevertheless, we ghosted most of the canyon and added webbing on one drop where the pull otherwise may not have been great. In the slotted section of the canyon we found a stuck rope that it appears someone double stranded and then couldn't pull. That person seemingly skipped two sets of bolts on the way down, making their life much more difficult than it needed to be. Recovered the rope, reach out if its yours and you want it back. This canyon requires a little care to avoid sticking a rope, but the worst area has bolts which should make a stuck rope far less likely. Long hike out of West Fork (totally worth it) and then a long shuttle up to the top.

Comment: Rap 1 is a nice downclimb if someone is looking for more technicality. The rest of the canyon was straight forward. A fiddlestick is a good tool to have in this canyon. Bring lots of water if doing it during the current summer. It was hot and dry.

Comment: Easy canyon. All of the drops land on rock and have no pools. We replaced all of the webbing anchors except R2 which we did not use. We were able to traverse high along the wall down to the anchor of R3 without needing a rope. It is exposed here so use caution. We used the recommended rig for R6 and it was practically an all dry drop. If you want be in the flow a bit more, consider rigging R6 off a tree CR instead of the existing CL anchor. The exit hike is pretty steep and heinous so you may want to consider the shuttle.

Comment: No water. Christopher Creek had a very small trickle at the top that disappeared by the end into stagnant pools with a film and bubbly algae. All of the waterfall rappels were dry.
