Comment: Fun run through HDH. Folks with larger frames should be prepared to do ~30' stems over some of the tighter sections. Replaced several anchors throughout the canyon. We had psyched ourselves up that we might get close to the edge of lake powell but low water levels have meant that most maps "waterline" is far from the truth. The hike back in the heat was fairly punishing and would suggest >2L (~3-4) of water per person

Comment: Excellent, sustained slot canyon action. There are abundant narrow places, some of which will require high stemming, but it's all secure. The canyon was dark and sinuous in several places. We did 3 short raps. Water was present to knee depth, no one wore wetsuits and that was A-OK in the 85 degree heat. We did the Hard Day exit and enjoyed nice views. It did feel like a slog in the heat, though.

Comment: To be honest I found HDH to be one of my least favorite canyons. As a caver, I do not find any humor in spending long stretches of time in tight vertical squeezes, destroying my harness, cows tails and carabiners. Any pools of water were around waist deep or lower, with quite a bit of mud since the pools had not dried up completely. For the long hike out using the HDH route, the beta did not seem clear on where to exit the final top layer which would be spicy to free climb. We spent some time walking along the bottom of this layer trying to find a weakness. We finally found a weakness at 37.65814, -110.56328 which was a pile of breakdown, and was easy to walk up to the top without any exposure. You could choose to take the Good Day Jim exit instead, although in that exit you miss a most excellent scenic overlook of Lake Powell. We completed the canyon and hike in 8 hours car to car.

Good
