Comments: The approach to this route looks worse as you walk up to it then it actually is, although it is brushy! Hopefully as more folks do this route it’ll be less prickly. We tried to follow the kml to R1 but couldn’t figure it out. Cliffed out multiple times so we gave up and just went ahead down the slick rock to r2. The section between R1 and R2 is really cool! It’s worth all the prickles on the way in. We replaced the webbing on r3 (the 150) with a redundancy anchor. Webbing on R4 will also need to be replaced soon.

Comment: Ryan: A unique route and a fun way to explore Hartwell! We approached via End of Rope gully approach. This approach is one of my favorites in the area, it's fun and engaging. We opted to climb up the rockslide at the top of the gully instead of avoiding it. Everything seemed stable enough and the 4th class nature of this route really makes it exciting!

The various pools and winding water cutout makes this a unique and memorable route. Very picturesque! The raps are fun enough but dropping into Hartwell the scenery really changes and feels unique.

So much to see in the woods on the exit if you know where to look! We spent some time exploring a few of these hidden gems!

Eric: We by-passed R1 as advised and the rest of the route was really neat. Out of all of the routes we did this weekend, hawk held the most water and had a trickle. Made some stops on the exit. Neat area. We saw a momma and baby rattle snake on the approach.

Comment: Had a great time with the best friends / adventure partners you could ask for! This canyon was beautiful. The approach wasn't bad at all and has a clearly defined trail. Take some time to enjoy the approach and the saddle, they may be the most beautiful part of this route. The technical portion is short with only a few raps but still makes for a fun time. Took our time and enjoyed catching up. All anchors are in good shape. Eric made some modifications and cleaned up some of the messy rigging.

Comment: Decent canyon. The approach is easy and it has some great views. Personally there are better canyons in the region I would check out first if you don't have a lot of time such as Magic. The requirement for the 245 foot rope is unnecessary due to the fact that the rappel is completely optional. It is borderline a stunt rappel because on the approach you arrive at the bottom of the rappel and need to climb up and over to begin the 245. If you don't have a long enough rope you can do the rest of the canyon without missing much.

Comment: We climbed the slick rock up to the ruin, however, we decided to skip rappel 1.

The descent after the ruin was both beautiful and fun. Here is the video trip report:
