Comments: Started from Crystal Lake just as dawn was breaking and got a great view over the valley on the approach which took 1:45. The canyon was at first scree but quickly changed to shrubs with a trickle of water and then more thick woods. We did several downclimbs in the upper reaches, one a beautiful multi-step falls that was probably one of the rappels mentioned in the beta (picture attached). We didn't have to break out the rope or wetsuits at all. The canyon gradually became deeper and rockier with impressive crags piled along both sides. We reached the confluence with the north fork after 4.5 hours in the descent, after which the terrain got even better with many deep clear pools and charming waterfalls. We waded many pools but did not have to swim. It took two hours to get from the confluence to East Fork and then was an easy walk back to the trailhead. Despite the lack of rappels in Iron Fork it was a spectacular hike through a remote canyon and worth the effort.
