Comment: We had a huge group that celebrated the 4th of Jump-ly in Lower Jump this year. This was my first time doing this canyon and wow wow wow was this one full of fun. Since most people did the jumps, we were able to go from the standard entrance (some opted for the express entrance too) to the express exit in about 8 hours. 3/2 wetsuits were appropriate at this time as I believe Willie measured the temp of the water at 64F if memory serves me correctly. The water does fluctuate temps from what I noticed so those that get cold easily may want a 4/3. The next day we completed Lower Patterson and the big 300’ cascade waterfall has now been turned into a 3 stage rappel LDC with each rappel estimated about 60-80’ roughly. Several members of the group slid the toboggan while the cascade was rebolted from its previously missing bolts.

Comment: 4th of Jump-lie!! Great conditions and incredible canyon especially for our huge group to get through. We started with the huge group then broke into smaller groups as 5 of us jumped ahead of the pack. We hiked down the gated road for the standard approach and exited via the sneak. The sculpted granite walls are large and the canyon is very wide. Deep deep pools, tons of swimming, lots of options to jump or rig a rappel. Beautiful granite rock! The big rappel is pretty fun but a total pounder, dont try to stand just control your hip slide descent. Gorgeous views! The final rappel before the sneak exit is the Rainbow Room. Water falls coming in from multiple sides create a rainbow circle in your vision as you descend when the sun is high. Totally magical! I wore my 4/3 and was plenty warm but was nice to be able to spend time in the pools. TONS of water exposure. The sneak is steep and loose with plenty of poison oak but it is well cut out and easy to follow. There is a reason this is one of the best in Cali. 5.5hrs.

Comment: Flow was around 13-14 csf, most webbing was in good shape did replace the last rap into the rainbow room, used the top anchor. Someone installed a long rope that is in the big pool above the rainbow room that could be used to rappel in to the big jump pool or use it as a hand line to reach top anchor. Sneak exit was in good shape and took 50mins.

Comment: We had a good trip with no major issues. Some anchors are showing their age like at black hole and we didn't see anything too contradictory to the beta in terms of jumping hazards. we bypassed running rock mostly for time reasons.

Comment: We came from Upper Jump and used the express exit, thus 6 hours was from the Lower / Upper junction back to our shuttle vehicles at a leisurely pace. Jump was awesome as always!

Comment: We had a great trip in Lower Jump with great weather and great company! We replaced the webbing for five anchors as well as a couple quicklinks that were missing or looking a bit rusty. The chains at one or two of the anchors (Black Hole specifically) could also use replacement sometime this season if someone is so inclined (or can be replaced with webbing) - many of the chain links have been worn significantly away. All of the usual obstacles are jumpable. Half of our group exited at the Express Exit and the rest continued through the rest of the canyon where we greatly enjoyed the Toboggan and the Boulder Maze. Lots of PO on the early part of the express exit, otherwise it's in good shape-uploaded Strava track to main map. No notable fire impacts anywhere in the area aside from pink retardant on the two bridges and vicinity on Black Rock road. Wifi at PG&E HQ was not updated with the August password yet, likely due to the weekend falling shortly after the 1st.

Comment: Great day. We did the whole canyon coming out at the power station shuttle in just under 10 hours. Water flow was at around 10cfs so nothing was super challenging but still a lot of fun. The rainbow room webbing was newly replaced when we arrived, always one of my favorite rappels.

Comment: Great day, clear water…the webbing for rainbow room is still old from last year, we skipped it so we didn’t replace it.

Comment: The day was overcast and chilly (rained the night before & the morning after), so the entire team wore full suits from 3-6mm. The express entrance and exit were used due to group size & weather concerns. All anchors were intact; no major updates on prior trip reports. On the exit, a rattlesnake surprised us, but it was more interested in warning than attacking (thankfully). The flow was read post-trip and was approximately 12-13 cfs during trip; due to rain overnight, it spiked to 15 cfs pre-trip but dropped in the AM. The gauge was checked the evening BEFORE the trip, and it registered 11 cfs then.

Comment: Thanks for the fresh bolts! The sneak exit is getting overgrown with poison oak in a few spots, future groups might want to bring loppers.

Quinn's comments: this was my first time taking the express exit, and I now hold a strong opinion that we should rename it. Thanks folks for figuring it out! It's an awesome early bailout if for some reason you can't or don't want to continue the canyon, or a way to get a taste of Jump if you don't have a shuttle vehicle. But it's an early bailout or escape. Doing the sneak option just isn't doing Jump, you miss so much canyon, and I would strongly encourage people to plan to do the whole thing and only exit at the bailout if they're having a bad time.

Comment: Very late first Jump Trip due to the historic high snowpack.

As expected, bolt damage at the Big Rappel anchor, so we replaced one bolt. Other bolted anchors except Rainbow Room were inspected and regarded as good for the season. No unusual obstructions were noted at jumps. Some debris had to be cleared from Boulder Garden. This team plans to clean some of the now over-bolted stations in 2024, and replace some poor bolts with glue-in bolts with no webbing. We got circled and later buzzed by a helicopter around noon. We saw another group in Patterson as we were entering the Boulder Garden, tho they were a few hours behind us.

Comment: We joined 8 friends from Utah to make for a BIG group of 11 canyoneers! Water temp was 65F; thin neoprene gloves and socks were helpful to keep hands and feet warm, but not needed. All the anchor webbing in in good shape. Gage was at 11 CFS. We dropped in from Upper Jump and used the express exit after the Matrix Jump. With 11 people, we had special challenges just keeping track of everyone, so the progression through the waterpark was rather slow. Still, we had so much daylight that it wasn't a problem, even though we dropped in from Upper Jump.

Comment: We had a large, slow group. Took the express entrance and the express exit. The express entrance is awesome, the express exit... not so much. The canyon was a blast. I did the entrance exam twice and got to rap the rainbow room again. We replaced the anchor for the rainbow room rap, it was completely sunbleached. Willie: water temp was 54F and with cool air that weekend we did not skimp on wetsuits, neoprene gloves and socks! Water flow was 12 CFS per Dreamflows.
