Comments: Some enjoyable raps and creek walking in between bouts of blackberry bush shralping and very slippery rocks. Water was a little low (50csf @ Lake Clementine inflow) making the pools a little stagnant. No wetsuit needed, long sleeves would have been nice for the bush shralping. 1st rap is beautiful, nice bolt station. , 2nd rap(25’) is unenjoyable through a blackberry bush. 3rd rap is nice. Last waterfall (downclimb LDC) would make a nice final rap in the waterway with a possible slide finish if someone bolted it (please 🙏). Did it as a loop but would be better with the float/pack raft finish to Oregon Bar or even with a car shuttle to China Bar as the hike out is not hard but not that enjoyable in the 95 degree heat. Overall, a decent canyon if you’re in the area but not a destination by itself.

Comment: A nice day out. The canyon has some highlights (lots of salamanders, fig-trees, bucolic entrance hike), it also has some annoyances (slippery rock, a fair amount of bush-whacky creek walking, lots of sharp blackberry that wasn't even ripe enough to eat yet). We hit it early enough in the season that there was still some actual flow, making the first rappel fun, and with 2 mandatory swims.
Someone has added bolts (added to beta) on rap 1, and that's now very fun and right in the flow. Sadly still no bolts on the last potential rap, which could even be a rap into a fun slide... Took the float exit, which is a fun way to end the day (and just added the beta to the page and map so others can enjoy this version in the future). Group wore a mix of thermal protection ranging from only a 2mm neoprene jacket, to a full 4mm-5mm wetsuit. A thin neoprene jacket or shorty was probably the right amount of protection for a ~80 degree day at the end of May. Long sleeves/pants are likely a plus at any time of year due to an abundance of blackberry in the canyon. | |||||||

Comment: Time is not indicative of canyon and represents time teaching techniques + waiting for beginners. Added webbing around a rock for a third rappel. Scramble up slope was not ideal at exit. I've heard of alternate beta that involves floating downstream until finding an easy exit trail on the right. This is likely a much better exit

Comment: First (documented) descent! Since it's near where we live, we did an evening-turning-to-nighttime descent. This tactic is recommended for summer descents. Ate lots of blackberries, and saw a lot of bear scat.
Crossed the river at 700 CFS, both of us have previous swiftwater experience and aggressive swimming/ferry angle was required. Thrashed our way uphill to the road. The rock is not granite -- it's some black stuff which is impressively intact for the whole technical section. I think I'll use this canyon as a tester canyon for new canyoneers before jumping into nearby favorite Myo -- this one has decent rappels, a lot of downclimbing, some creek walking, a swiftwater crossing, and a strenuous hike out. I'm curious who left the nicely bolted anchor, and I'm excited to go back in higher water!
