Comment: As always, fun route when time is short, but you still want a decent drop. Anchor webbing is good all the way through.

It seems like the final cairn anchor keeps growing in height, and not in a really constructive way. The fairly massive base rock that the webbing is wrapped around didn’t move a bit, but some of the many rocks heaped on top of the high pile settled when our largest team member approached edge, (and the webbing angle correspondingly changed). Having a huge pile of small rocks on top just makes it seem scary when the superfluous top rocks settle or slide, and I doubt their weight adds meaningfully to the anchor’s stability.

Comment: Agree that this little series of drops is convenient and good bang for the buck if you are comfortable with assessing and rebuilding cairn anchors. We completed in two drops (combined R2 and R3 with a toggle, this took a bit of care on rappel) and replaced a faded loop of webbing during inspection of the R2 cairn anchor. All other webbing on the anchors was in good shape, though I do find the multiple strands of webbing on cairn anchors in this area to be pretty amusing. R3 looks to be nice geometry for sandtrapping if you're into that, but is unnecessary in it's current condition due to the boulder/cairn anchor available in that hanging pothole.

On the not-so-great-side, I noticed a shiny new wedge bolt at R2 across the watercourse from the cairn anchor, went over to inspect it, and removed that bolt by hand with a few light wiggles. Not awesome. Unsure who placed it and if it was intended for use during flow?, but in addition to being unnecessary and poorly located IMO, it was clearly not installed properly. Stay safe out there and avoid blindly trusting bolts just because they pass a cursory visual inspection.

Comment: Anchors set. Last drop anchor looks a bit iffy but was very solid when I got my rope somewhat stuck (poor rope management, pull shouldn't be difficult) and was yanking it.

Comment: Area was moist from recent rain. Quick approach and exit. Anchors in good shape. Decent canyon for beginners. Money shot on the final rappel.

Comment: Anchors in great shape despite recent rain. Added another webbing to R2 anchor. None of the anchors even creaked, and our group had rappellers up to about 250lbs.

Must be more sediment, cause there was no water to contend with at bottom of drops (plenty in the creek below, easily avoided with careful crossing).

Wildflowers were spectacular, and this early, the cheatgrass isn't dry enough to cause trouble yet. Go now!

Comment: Great option for a very quick, close-to-town slot!

+1 on this being a better experience than Geronimo’s/Headdress next door. Trail quality is almost shockingly brush free. Approach and exit are quick and painless. All 3 raps have easy starts. Minimal, totally avoidable water was present in a small pool at bottom of R1. All anchors were in good shape - thanks to whoever built those solid R2 and R3 deadmen!

Comment: All the anchors were solid, boulder on R3 is kinda wedged against the wall and buried in sand and backed up by the deadman and felt very strong and stable. I gave it "normal" rating because in current conditions it was easy but if they change you have to be able to built natural anchors.

Comment: Long time canyoneer, but have neglected trip reports. Someone encouraged me to start posting trip reports to contribute to the community, 100% valid as RopeWiki is my primary site!

I saw this pop-up and needed to bag two more canyons in 2021 to hit my 24 per year, this seemed like a shortish drive, easy approach, and exit for a great half-day in the Supes, and that it was! We started out, easy approach hike, almost all on the trail. The pinch point was perfectly fine. We had four total, so we went ahead and built a cairn anchor for rap #2, the arch seemed a little thin! Updating the canyon page with this. Even though we built it, please look and analyze anchors before using them. It was bomber for us, but water, nature and settling changes things! Final rap was off a boulder that is not fully stationary. Looked for a pinch point, chock or something else but could not anything substantial. The boulder moves, nervous the webbing will flip or move the rock, backed it up with a deadmans anchor but it didn't inspire us in the coarse sand. That boulder will change every storm as it is right in water course in a pothole with coarse sand. I'd always bring at least 30 ft of webbing in here specifically, just in case. These natural anchors could easily change, don't consider them guarantees. Great half day in the Supes, out at 9:30am from Tempe, back by 2:30pm.

Comment: Super cool mini route by Tortilla Flat that I actually enjoyed more than nearby Geronimos Ravine. Great bang for your buck and would be lots of fun with some flow. Rebuilt all anchors. You or someone in your party should be experienced in evaluating and establishing natural anchors. Some may prefer to build a cairn in lieu of the R2 natural arch - there are enough rocks nearby to construct one. Soft starts recommended for R2 and R3. Trail rope or wait to toss until landing zone is visible on R3 as there may be hikers below exploring Peter’s Canyon.
