Comments: If I were to rewrite the beta for this, it would say “rappel 1, 50ft, 3 million years of slog bushwacking, rappel 2…” but that’s just me. Overall was fun but we did not expect the slog it was, there is a large down limb after rappel 1 so repack your ropes for the climb down, I will not be returning to this route but was nice to check off.

Webbing looks good and raps are clean.

Comment: A very rugged route indeed! Still plenty of neat features and fun rappels throughout. Especially enjoyed the caves! Still very bushy between raps. Not a route for beginners or fairweather canyoneers.

Comment: A decent canyon with some cool features, an easy but very long approach, and lots of brush in the technical section.

The approach up Wilson Mtn Trail is fairly easy but quite boring. The views are okay but most of the interesting scenery is quite far away from you. Once topped out, taking the Overlook trail is easy to follow through the woods and over to the overlook which was pretty. There is a faint trail along the cliff through the sparse forest and over to the rocky ridge that you traverse around to get down. Once to the valley and the final ascent, the GPS file takes you straight through the worst of the brush, however, we were able to avoid most of it by going around to the right and up. More brush and a faint trail to follow along the peak to your first rappel.

We found the webbing at most every anchor to be eaten by critters or badly sunburnt. We ended up replacing webbing on 9 of the 10 rappels.

The down climb slot cave LDC after R1 was neat! Worth checking out.

A few of the rappels were very pretty and fun but there was A LOT of bushwhacking throughout the technical section between each one which got quite old.

I spent a lot of time teaching and rebuilding anchors. I feel our time on this canyon was quite excessive and the average experienced small group could shave at least 2hrs off our time.

Comment: Canyon has a neat section near the end and a couple of interesting features. The cave and the views of sedona are definitely amazing but to get to those views involves a lot of bushwacking. Considering some of the other canyons in the area. I wouldn't say it's worth that view. If you're someone that intents to complete the Sedona region, definitely do it but if you're someone that wants more bang for your buck there are plenty of other options in the area.

Comment: An epic and memorable day on the Misfit. High winds made for some special challenges, particularly on the downclimbing section between R1 and R2. Sand was repeatedly blown into our eyes, making navigation on this already steep and loose terrain more difficult. Not recommended to run this canyon under these conditions (or during any inclement weather for that matter). A burly but scenic approach for a very rugged route with some nice rappels and an awesome cliffside cave midway down. Straightforward exit. Time is car-to-shuttle at a relaxed pace. Finished in the dark by headlamp. No route-finding issues following the KML, but expect lots of bushwacking and loose rock throughout the route. True cliffoneering.

Comment: Rugged cliffoneering route with sketchy downclimbs if you're into that sort of thing ;)

Comment: Smoothe run with doctors_out. some anchors should be tightened up or adjusted as they put you close to the edge. Many wont dare to do this long approach, but than again this route is not for everyone. enjoy the rugged nature and amazing views if you date.

Comment: First Descent with Paul Halinan. Route turned out better than expected. Brushy up top with fun downclimbs and scenic rappels. Arguably the best views in sedona. The cave was a treat.
