Comments: Kind of a weird and clunky canyon. The location is the highlight. Rappels and canyon quality are lacking imo. Nice challenge if you're up for problem solving but don't expect a premium slot. I saw webbing on 4 different trees at the beginning of the canyon so it's a choose your own adventure sort of thing. I didn't use any of the webbing so it's possible to ghost the whole canyon. I had a 100m rope (328 feet) and wouldn't have wanted anything shorter. Just my 2 cents

Comment: A really enjoyable canyon with a fun scenic approach, incredible huge views in the technical section, fun big raps and even a fun stemming slot section. Super full featured and an awesome day with unique fun conditions.

The hike up Angel's Landing Trail and West Rim Trail had barely any ice on it. There was a bit of ice on the slick rock when getting off trail but easily avoidable. Some snow up in the woods nearing the canyon but nothing we couldn't get through. The creek has some frozen spots but most pools have unfrozen water that is filterable! Lots of beautiful icicles along the creek!

The first rappel is a jaw dropper! You can see the whole technical route ahead of you and even the Narrows far below! There was lots of ice down this rappel which made it fun and extra pretty. Bits of ice throughout the canyon, microspikes not needed as it was avoidable with care. We combined R2 & R3 as a 200' using a CEM knot made the pull a breeze from the slot below.

The stemming slot is fairly easy stemming/downclimbing and very fun!

A few of the anchors had the webbing iced over so we fixed/rebuilt them. The last rappel's typical boulder anchor was completely under ice but we found an alternative option rigged to a tree DCR providing the same spectacular big free hang into the Narrows below!

The Narrows was not overly cold. Definitely not as icy cold as everyone had tried to warn us about... We wore cheap 3mm neoprene pants, 4mm neoprene booties and were plenty comfortable.

Super fun in these winter conditions definitely recommend!

Comment: Got started later than ideal and thus the approach hike was HOT! We split R1 into 200/100 feet and used my Fiddlestick to make the pull trivial from the higher "courtesy" rig point. We also used my Fiddlestick for the last rappel the same way; made the rappel length about 250 feet. There was a tiny bit of water in the deep pools; not enough to get wet at all. All the webbing is reasonably fresh and we replaced the dirty piece at the intermediate R1 tree.

Comment: I spent 3.5 hours on the approach, not exactly knowing the way (first time up this way) and had 50 lbs pack (including 330' 10mm rope, 206' 8mm, 90' 7mm, 310' pull cord). I spent 40 minute break and getting ready, 3.0 hours down including cleaning up webbing on several anchors, managing my stupidly heavy and long 15 lbs 330' foot rope, taking lots of pictures, and just enjoying the awesome views. Exit time was 1.5 hours which at least 30 minutes was answering questions for the peanut gallery. ----- I followed the watercourse down and R1 (advertised as 300 feet) is actually 2 raps both under 150 feet using a nice roomy sandy ledge with a 6" dia tree as anchor. The V trough in the middle canyon has 2 short raps, and lots of simple down climbing but can be a bit of a pain wearing a big pack. The final rap is 240 feet, with about 180 feet free.

Comment: The last rappel is hard on the rope. It is recommended to change the abrasion point after each person on the last rappel. This was a fun canyon with a good team. The drop into the narrows is spectacular.

    • " This was Day 3 of our 4 day Zion Canyoneering Trip. This is another big day, as we took it easy on Day 2 (only doing two short Canyons - Keyhole and Pinecreek). Not Imlay begins just like day 1 - hiking up the West Rim Trail past Angels Landing and all the hordes of people! We then go off trail..." Zion - "Not Imlay Canyon" (2017-06-24)
